TRIPLAST – Europe’s most modern sorting plant attracts international attention. 🎯 Since the beginning of July 2024 TRIPLAST is now officially in operation. The three owners of the new sorting plant for lightweight packaging in Upper Austria – ARA - Altstoff Recycling Austria AG, Bernegger GmbH and Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH– Invited to the official opening of the new sorting plant for lightweight packaging in #Ennshafen. Exclusive Tour International interest is rapidly growing and we wanted to give PROsPA members, together with the PRO Europe members at the annual PRO Europe shareholders' meeting, the opportunity to visit the facility even before the official opening, to get a first impression on the new sorting plant and its forward thinking set-up. Erwin Janda, Managing Director of ARAplus GmbH, and martin prieler, CEO of ARA AG, were on site and gave the members detailed information about the new sorting plant: ❗ Austria has to double the recycling quote of plastic packaging by the end of 2025. The new sorting plant will make a significant contribution as it processes materials for subsequent recycling, ensuring that valuable raw materials are not getting lost. The circular economy project in Ennshafen, Upper Austria, has an annual sorting capacity of 100,000 tons of plastic and metal packaging, which means that 50% of all Austrian lightweight packaging can be sorted there. Furthermore, it creates more than 60 new green jobs. With 2.5 km of conveyor belt, 160 km of cable, 2,250 tons of reinforced steel, 38 near-infrared devices and three sieve drums state-of-the-art technology was applied in the sorting plant. Packaging is processed in such a way that it can then be turned into recyclate and used to manufacture new packaging or other products. TriPlast handles roughly 20 tons per hour and is more than three times the size of existing plants in Austria. Of course, proper safety was ensured during the tour, and everyone was equipped with mandatory safety vests and helmets. We are delighted to see so much international interest and the results already show that the hard work has definitely paid off. #Recycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Innovation #GreenJobs #Austria #TriPlast Credits: ARA - Altstoff Recycling Austria AG

Henk Diepenmaat (Maastricht University) about Dual Track Governance: "The least developed part of the Dual Track is not the entrepreneurial part but the societal and institutional part. We want to guide society towards sustainability." Included the link (https://lnkd.in/eP7eZvBN) to the report (In Dutch) on the Workshop Design and System Integration of Circular Plastics NL in The Hague, April 18. Henk Diepenmaat underlined in this event the Syschemiq principles, in particular its Dual Track Governance approach. Transitions do not occur in a vacuum. It's not just about the operational-technical aspects of recycling; attention is also given to social, economic, and institutional aspects. According to Diepenmaat, through a Dual Track Governance approach, efforts should be made towards an "even but skew playing field favoring sustainability": a level playing field that leans towards sustainability. This can be achieved through incentives and regulations, but also through cooperation and knowledge sharing among stakeholders. Diepenmaat argues against primarily and exclusively placing the responsibility on producers, suggesting instead an 'Extended Societal Responsibility', where not only producers but also consumers, governments, and other actors are accountable for the circular economy. "The business sector is eager to move faster," says Diepenmaat. "The least developed part of the Dual Track is not the entrepreneurial part but the societal and institutional part. We want to guide society towards sustainability."For this purpose, a workflow has been developed with generic steps that are replicable: Scoping Study (mapping the relevant system and stakeholders involved). Analysis (gathering information about stakeholders, governance characteristics, and transition dynamics). Modeling (integrating the gathered information into models to develop packages of measures). Implementation (implementing the measures and evaluating the effects). 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 🤝 Solidus’ products are circular by design and as a company we are actively exploring with partners how we can optimise closing the material loop. This means gaining better insight of the end-to-end supply chain, engaging with all stakeholders in the value chain and investing in new innovations and technologies to further improve the recyclability of our products. Our Spanish Solidus plant, Videcart, is currently partnering in a Zero Plastics project, financed by the Government of the Spanish region Navarra. Together with 7 other companies and entities, we are investigating to develop new sustainable materials, moving away from plastics. Due to regulatory requirements, the need to reduce the use of non-biodegradable plastics in food product packaging is prominent. With this Zero Plastics project, Solidus, amongst other things, looked into developing a sustainable alternative for the plastic foil used in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP). A joint research project we're currently investing further within our own Solidus Experience Centers. Learn all about the project and our circularity initiatives in video below 👇. 👩🔬 DePoly goes industrial with the construction of a Showcase Plant in Monthey, Switzerland ❗The start-up company DePoly, which is supported by Fondation The Ark on our campus, is about to reach a new milestone in its young existence. 🏭 TRecently named one of the World Economic Forum's 100 Technology Pioneers, the company is launching the construction of the first plastic monomer recycling plant in Switzerland. It will be located on the CIMO Compagnie industrielle de Monthey SA chemical site. ♻ This plant will be able to recycle up to 500 tonnes per year of unsorted, untreated and mixed consumer and industrial textile and packaging waste. 🍼 DePoly's low energy technology enables these plastics to be broken down into virgin quality raw monomers. These can then be used to make new recycled PET products, identical to those made from oil. 📈 Having spent three years optimising its processes on our campus, DePoly is now ready to scale up its technology to an industrial level. 👨🏭 This Showcase Plant will be used as a model for other facilities worldwide in coming years. When it becomes operational at the end of Q1 2025, it is expected to create 30 direct and indirect local jobs. #innovation #cleantech #recycling #plastics
