Taking learning from the classroom to the lab, aspiring engineering students and faculties from the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) visited our Penang site to gain insights on semiconductor technologies and operations in person. 🇲🇾 An immersive tour gave the students and faculties an opportunity to explore our products, manufacturing processes and core values while interacting with our experts who provided live demos. Ir Dr. Hasnizah Aris, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology, UniMAP, shared her feedback on the visit. “Our recent visit to Renesas was incredibly enlightening and insightful. We deeply appreciate the opportunity, as it allowed us to assess how well our Microelectronic Engineering degree program's curriculum aligns with industry requirements. During the visit, we also observed Renesas' commitment to maintaining high product quality while fostering a positive and supportive work environment for its employees.” Khaw Kai Herng, a third-year Electronics Engineering student at TAR UMT, got a glimpse into how Renesas contributes to the safety and comfort of modern vehicles. “Watching the manufacturing process in action was like seeing a well-choreographed performance, with each step carefully managed to ensure every component meets Renesas's high standards. We also learned about the strategies in place to quickly address any issues that might come up, which showed us just how committed Renesas is to excellence.” For more information, visit: https://bit.ly/4eZalX0 #RenesasUniversityRecruiting #RenesasRisingTalent #EarlyCareers #Engineering

Penang looks to enhance role in global chip supply chain (mulls ban on foreigners preparing famous local dishes). Penang is Malaysia's leading semiconductor hub but wants to elevate its Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone from just a manufacturing output niche to one with strong ties to research and development (R&D). But Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow warned that "that efforts to attract investors will no longer materialise if the country does not have sufficient human talent." Asked about an acute shortage of talent, namely in the engineering field, Chow said the federal government needs to help by reforming the inculcation of learning to the youngsters so they grasp the new skills emerging from a post-pandemic world. #Vietnam turns #chip sector magnet with affordable, quality talent pool 💡 #USA, #Taiwan, #SouthKorean players beat path to #Vietnam though boom strains resources Visiting her old college in #Vietnam, Tran Thi Ngoc Guong didn't expect all the students to be so curious about her industry: #Chip design. "People had so many questions, and they were so detailed," she said. "I was surprised." One student confided that he had just switched to her major; another asked her about obscure matters like a "clock tree," a #hardware design circuitry concept -- something she had never encountered when she was a #student. A lot has changed in the five years between Guong's graduation and her current position as senior engineer for physical design at U.S. chip developer Marvell Technology. Now, fresh-faced Vietnamese students are jumping into #semiconductors, and the government has a target of training at least 50,000 #chip engineers and designers by 2030. "Compared with #Taiwan or #SouthKorea, the productivity and salary levels for engineers in #Vietnam make the country attractive for companies, while the government's aggressive push to make its #tech economy more sophisticated has helped enlarge and improve the candidate pool" - Brian Chen, a partner at KPMG Taiwan and KPMG Vietnam said. Thanks to Lien Hoang, Cheng Ting-Fang, Jaewon Kim , Lauly Li and Nikkei Asia for the full BIG STORY with more background and insights via the link below 💡🙏👇 https://lnkd.in/exmT6SEu #semiconductorindustry #semiconductor #semiconductormanufacturing #technology #icdesign #innovation #electronics #computer #ai #aiot #ic

Small business venture 101:Here's my two cents story. Upcoming Penang Chip Design Academy planned. Malaysia, accounting for 13% of global chip assembly, testing and packaging business. Penang is the top exporting state with RM435bil in 2023, representing 31% of the country’s total. The global semiconductor market is set to rise from US$574bil (RM2.56 trillion) in 2022 to a forecast of US$1 trillion (RM4.46 trillion) by 2030. 60,000 engineers by 2030. There are currently 25 active IC design companies in Malaysia, of which 21 are in Penang.

The semiconductor industry in the Philippines is experiencing a surge in demand for talent, especially in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE). Companies are actively looking for ECE graduates to take on crucial roles, as there is an expected shortfall of 128,000 semiconductor professionals by 2028. Surprisingly, many of these positions do not necessitate passing a board exam, offering a promising opening for academic institutions and individuals contemplating a career transition or additional education.
