It’s International Men’s Day 💙 This day is dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the contribution that men and boys make to their communities. It is also a part of Movember, Men’s Health Awareness Month. Our aim of sharing these awareness posts is to try to foster a connection between us and you, you and your colleagues or friends and family, us and the rest of the world. We want to encourage and establish safe spaces in our society where support is given to those who are struggling, and everyone’s voice is heard equally. Are there any men in your life who you can show your gratitude for today? A simple message to check in with how they’re doing, or a ‘thank you for...’, can go a long way in making them feel seen and valued. We can all do our bit in making today a safer space to be vulnerable, authentic and comfortable in ourselves. #awareness #awarenessdays #internationalmensday #mensday #Movember #November #workplace #commpassion #CommPassionforyou #gratitude #wellbeing #support #mentalhealth

Today marks R U OK? Day. The 2024 theme, “R U OK Any Day," reminds us to check in on each other regularly. Life serves up challenges that can sometimes make us feel overwhelmed, unsure, or unsettled. When that happens it’s comforting to know there is someone we can talk to who can share the load and help us through. The people in your world won’t always tell you if something’s troubling them, so it’s important for you to consider what’s going on in their lives and be on the lookout for any changes in the way they behave. By simply asking, ‘are you OK?’ and having a meaningful conversation you can help those you care about through life’s ups and downs. We hosted our second Self-Care Sunday yesterday, and it was so wonderful to connect with our community who were joining from three different continents 🌍 Each Sunday we spend an hour together, with guided meditation, journaling, a self-care activity and a sharing circle. To close our Self-Care Sundays, we read a story aloud. Yesterday's story was a reminder that doing your best is good enough, and every tiny action adds up. 📚 The Hummingbird and the Forest Fire One day, a terrible fire broke out in a forest - a huge, roaring blaze that threatened to destroy everything in its path. All the animals gathered at the edge of the forest, feeling helpless as they watched their home being consumed by flames. The fire was too big, and they felt there was nothing they could do. Suddenly, a tiny hummingbird flew back and forth from the river to the fire, carrying a few drops of water in its beak each time. The other animals watched, confused and surprised by the little bird’s actions. "Little Hummingbird, what do you think you’re doing?" asked a large, concerned elephant. "The fire is far too big, and you’re far too small to make any difference!" The hummingbird paused for a moment, then turned to the elephant and said, "I’m doing the best I can." With that, the hummingbird continued flying back and forth, carrying tiny drops of water to the flames. Reflection Questions: 🌳What does this story suggest about the importance of individual efforts, even when the challenges seem insurmountable? 🌳In what ways can you be like the hummingbird in your work, volunteering or activism? 🌳How can a small but determined effort inspire others around you? Would you like an hour in your week to rest? To reflect on how you're really feeling? To spend 60 minutes away from your phone? Join us each Sunday. Come and look after your wellbeing with us. 🎟 https://lnkd.in/dkMxDB5m #thejoyfulactivists #charitywellbeing #humanitarianmentalhealth

Welcome to Tumbleweed Sunday Reflection, where we pause to contemplate life's journey. This week, we explore the power of connection. As Healthy Aging Month draws to a close, let's celebrate the importance of social connections. Socially engaged older adults experience numerous health benefits: 🔸 50% lower risk of dementia 🔸 29% lower risk of heart disease and stroke 🔸 Up to 40% reduced risk of depression 🔸 Enhanced cognitive function and memory 🔸 Increased sense of purpose and life satisfaction We truly thrive when we're connected! Here are some actions to boost your social engagement this week: ✅ Reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while ✅ Join a local senior center or community group ✅ Volunteer for a cause you care about ✅ Start or join a hobby-based club (e.g., book club, gardening club) ✅ Learn to use video chat to connect with distant family and friends Remember, quality matters more than quantity when it comes to relationships. Every connection, like an oasis in the desert, can refresh and revitalize us. #StayConnected #SocialWellness #CommunityMatters #FriendshipAfter50 #ActiveAging #tumbleweed #tumbleweedplan

Today, we celebrate International Men’s Day, a time to honor the contributions of men and boys to their families, communities, and society. This year’s theme, “Men’s Health Champions,” shines a spotlight on individuals and organizations working to improve men’s health while addressing key challenges such as mental health, shorter life expectancy, and preventable diseases. The day also highlights the importance of: • Building Healthy Communities: Creating spaces where men and boys can thrive. • Looking Out for Your Mates: Supporting those who may be struggling. • Taking Action to Stay Healthy: Encouraging habits that promote well-being. • Creating a Healthier Future: Advocating for collective action to address health disparities . In the UK, broader goals include promoting positive conversations about masculinity, supporting male-focused charities, and addressing critical issues like education, workplace stress, and the high male suicide rate . This day is a reminder that men’s health and well-being are not just individual concerns but societal ones. Let’s come together to celebrate the men in our lives and commit to making their health and happiness a priority. How are you honoring the Men’s Health Champions in your life today? #InternationalMensDay #MensHealthChampions #MensHealthMatters

Sorry to say, but real-life community doesn't look like Friends or How I Met Your Mother. Even if you're in your 20's, it's not that easy. For most of us, community looks like: -Getting together with neighbors to hold one conversation over three hours- a sentence at a time, between responding to kid interruptions. -Adopting the little old lady down the street by helping her take in her trash cans (and, in turn, getting adopted and getting cookies and getting so much more.) -Traveling across town or across state or across country to visit family members regularly, just because you want your kids to grow up together (and heck, you're still "growing up" with them, too.) -Setting regular dinner dates and keeping them- which means getting used to hosting with a less-than-perfectly-clean bathroom/kitchen/living room/anything. -Scraping together airlines points to fly your best friend to your house when they can scrape together PTO to do so. - Dragging your a$$ to the neighborhood get togethers after a long day working or parenting, and engaging in small talk, and getting phone numbers, and following up with a text message- because you know the fruits of friendship only come from a lot of toil in the fields of social awkwardness. This shit's HARD. But the whole world would be better if we could just normalize the WORK of relationships. #mentalhealth #therapy #community
