Reminder: submit your short papers to the Movements and Markets PDW by July 12! Apply quickly using the following survey link: https://lnkd.in/emGnDSfH We are currently accepting submissions to our 8th annual AOM PDW on Movements and Markets (formerly known as the Social Movements, Stakeholders, and Nonmarket Strategy PDW) on Saturday, August 10th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Fairmont Hotel (Gold Room). Similar to prior years, we'll begin with an expert panel and discussion followed by a networking session that all are welcome to attend, no submission or registration is required. The final portion of the program is our research roundtables. These are a great opportunity to get the feedback you need: anything from vetting an idea for a new research project to hammering out details on a finished manuscript. The roundtables are open to all levels of scholarship – in the past, we've had participants just starting their PhDs, full professors, and everyone in between. To apply for the research roundtables, please submit an up to 3 page (about 1,000 words) summary of a new research idea or current research project to be explored with the discussants and other participants by July 12th. Join us for an exciting and topical PDW on Temporality and Technology at AOM in Chicago! The first part is open to all attendees, and the paper development part by application only. More information below - see you there! Shaz Ansari, Raghu Garud, Stine Grodal, Violina Rindova, Henri Schildt #AOM #temporality *********** Call for applications: AOM PDW 2024 Temporality and Technology: Temporal Dynamics of Technology Emergence and Development Application deadline: June 21, 2024 Date and Room: Saturday, Aug 10 2024 4:45PM - 6:45PM CT (GMT-5/UTC-5) at Fairmont in Ambassador Room Organizers Mia Chang-Zunino, ESCP Business School Nina Granqvist, Aalto University Panelists Shaz Ansari, Cambridge University Raghu Garud, Penn State University Stine Grodal, Northeastern University Violina Rindova, UC Irvine Discussant: Henri Schildt, Aalto University We're thrilled to announce the call for applications for our upcoming PDW on Temporality and Technology: Temporal Dynamics of Technology Emergence and Development at the Academy of Management annual meeting in Chicago. This PDW brings together prominent scholars and ongoing empirical research projects in the emerging literature on the role of temporality in technology emergence and development. Traditionally, the literature on technology emergence and development has treated time as a continuous and unidimensional construct. Lately, scholars have begun to challenge these assumptions and explore the multiple ways in which temporality-defined as socially and culturally construed understandings of time-shape technologies. For example, field participants' perceptions of the future and ensuing hype (Grodal & Granqvist, 2014; Logue & Grimes, 2022; Rindova & Martins, 2022), their views on the past and historicity (Garud, Gehman, & Giuliani, 2014; Nelson, Anthony, & Tripsas, 2023), and communities' asynchronous temporal orientations (Reinecke & Ansari, 2015) can all shape the trajectory of technology emergence in various ways. The overarching goal of this PDW is to assess the current state of empirical research and promote further inquiry in this emerging area. The first part of the PDW will feature keynote presentations by our panelists followed by an audience Q&A session. Part 1 is open to all conference attendees. The second part of the PDW will consist of small interactive roundtables, with the panelists and organizers serving as roundtable chairs. In each table, participants will have the opportunity to pitch their research designs and receive feedback. If you are interested in receiving feedback on a project that you are currently working on, please submit a one-page, single-spaced abstract or overview (excluding references) of your research project via this form: https://lnkd.in/dYDRGzQ4 by June 21, 2024. Attendance for the second part is limited to selected presenters and panelists. We are looking forward to seeing you in Chicago in August!

Many of us are exhausted by the illusionary trend of “inclusion” by a lot of these agencies. Many of us are also exhausted that lived experience knowledge in any capacity, as well as decades upon decades of deep community involvement, is consistently devalued in comparison to academic knowledge, or knowledge sanctioned by agencies, institutions, or organizations that are considered evidence-focused or academic. The Peer Respite model has never been ill-defined. As stated here, there is indeed a broad consensus on what these models are. Outside institutions have created confusion, purposefully or not, with the purpose of redefining parameters so the model can fit a systemic bill. I encourage everyone to engage with these resources and learn what has been known for many years. I also encourage those of us in this space to understand this is what has always been done to grassroots organizing or models that come out of grassroots efforts, and while it’s annoying and disheartening, it’s also part of the ebb and flow of existing in these times.
In spite of what federal agencies may claim in their reports, there is broad consensus on what a peer run crisis respite is and is not. For example, The Peer Respite Charter is published in The Peer Respite Handbook (p. 14-16), authored by Sera Davidow and others. The charter and the rest of the handbook outline many of these key components. To ignore the decades of work that has gone into the development and best practices of peer run respite is to contribute to the ongoing co-opting and medicalizing of a community-based support that was created to be separate and different from clinical crisis programs. See a copy of the charter here: https://lnkd.in/gdrZkdBc #PeerRunRespite #CrisisRespite

Introducing MaGPIE: Mass Grave Protection, Investigation and Engagement with speakers Prof. Melanie Klinkner and Emily Fisher This seminar will introduce the research project MaGPIE that underscores the prevalence of mass graves both globally and throughout history, whilst also underlining the atrocities that often occur alongside such outcomes. The MaGPIE project seeks to answer the following question: How can a comprehensive and universally applicable human rights framework for the protection and investigation of, and engagement with, mass graves be developed and achieved? The enormity of this question is not underestimated, and the project will span five-years, incorporating a number of workpackages that feed into the creation of such a pertinent and timely human rights framework. This presentation will give an overview of the magnitude of the problem, the theoretical gaps that require filling and what a corresponding policy framework will look like. It will then concentrate on the specific methodological steps adopted and employed to create a regularised, right-informed global map of mass grave. The rationale for this endeavour is clear: such a world-wide map attests to the impact of mass graves on those who are left behind and warrants capturing. For each body concealed in a mass grave, there is a family or community in anguish, waiting for their loved ones to be found, returned, and for justice to be done. I'm excited to share this CFP for a special issue with Science, Technology, and Human Values. The Special Issue invites contributions that explore racializing techno-environmental processes and how these are un/done, contested, or disrupted by knowledge practices and multispecies relations. Building on STS's critical role in analyzing how technology and scientific discourse materialize or challenge racialized inequalities, we aim to expand on frameworks of care, justice, abolition, and multispecies alliances to explore the intersection of techno-environmental relations and racialization. Here is the link to the complete CFP and the submission form: https://lnkd.in/erizN3Bd Please consider submitting an abstract. The deadline to submit an abstract is November 15th.

This summer, I worked on a Digital Credentials Design Template, exploring how digital credentials—verifiable, portable versions of degrees, certificates, and badges—can help close equity gaps, particularly for veterans. These credentials allow individuals to showcase skills beyond traditional transcripts, offering flexibility and transparency. Digital credentials are transforming education and workforce development by enabling skills-based hiring and equitable recognition of learning, regardless of where or how it was acquired. One example is the Indiana Commission for Higher Education's 2024 short-term, project-based virtual learning experience in cybersecurity, focused on veterans, their spouses, National Guard members, and ROTC students. This initiative provides hands-on projects leading to micro-credentials, helping veterans highlight their military-earned skills and improve their employment prospects. While this project focuses on veterans, digital credentials can advance racial equity if implemented intentionally. To drive this forward, my recommendations are as follows: * Launch tailored credentialing programs to address declining re-enrollment and completion rates. * Develop partnerships with community colleges to ensure smooth transitions and equitable digital credential access. * Disaggregate the data! Use data-driven strategies to identify and address racial disparities, promoting equitable credential outcomes. The future of education and workforce development is here, and it’s digital. Special thanks to Sakshee Chawla and John Lane for their guidance and support on this project. #DigitalCredentials #Equity #HigherEd #WorkforceDevelopment #SkillsBasedHiring
