We recently purchased our AMF vacuum clamping plate and now it is up and running we are loving the results. Why are we so impressed? Here's our thoughts on the benefits: ## Enhanced Stability; Using the vacuum table provides us with superior stability during milling operations because it evenly distributes holding force across the entire workpiece. The even clamping force reduces the risk of movement or vibration during machining, leading to higher precision and better surface finishes. In addition, it eliminates the need for us to use mechanical clamps that might obstruct the cutting tool's path meaning we can complete more complex and intricate designs without the risk of collision. ## Increased Productivity: The vacuum table simplifies the setup process as it allows workpieces to be positioned and secured quickly, reducing downtime between jobs. Also, multiple parts can be secured and machined simultaneously, making it possible to mill several identical components in one go. ## Machining Flexibility: As the table doesn't need physical clamps we have access to the entire surface of the workpiece, especially useful when we're machining large sheets or parts with complex geometries. ## Reduced Damage: Because the vacuum table holds the workpiece securely without excessive mechanical force it reduces the risk of damage, great for materials that are sensitive to pressure, meaning there are no marks or indentations left on the workpiece. ## Improved Accuracy: The even clamping force means that the workpiece is held in the same position, cycle after cycle. Improving the precision of sheet metal bending is really important for creating top-notch parts with tight tolerances. Here are some friendly tips to help you achieve better bending accuracy: 1. Optimize Bending Angles Accurate Angle Control: It’s a great idea to use machines that come with automatic angle control and digital readouts. They really help ensure those bending angles are spot-on! Keep an eye on the angle throughout the process, and let automated adjustments work their magic to maintain consistency. Compensate for Material Springback: When you're choosing the bend radius and tooling, don't forget to factor in material "springback." That’s just the way materials like to spring back a bit after bending. Using software simulations or bending calculators can be super helpful in figuring out the right compensation. 2. Use High-Precision Tools and Dies Quality Dies: Investing in high-quality bending dies with accurate tolerances is key to achieving consistent results. Custom dies can be tailored for specific applications, making them perfect for ensuring accuracy, especially for those tricky geometries. Sharp Tools: Keep your tools sharp! The die we are featuring today includes some forming assisted by a cam installed in the tool. Forming in a stamping die is often achieved by a simple punch and die relationship, where you pair the geometry needed to form sheet metal into its desired shape using a punch and a forming die. However, when superior control, curling, folding over, or other complex geometries are required, toolmakers rely on cams. Cams provide a simple horizontal action to perform forming work and are often driven by a simple angled piece of tool steel fixed to the punch plate.
