As I grow my business and interview candidates, I've been learning a lot, especially when it comes to hiring creatives. I am currently on the lookout for Video Editors, I recently interviewed several applicants for this role, and I focused solely on understanding their Video Editing skills. I wanted to see how they edit and tell stories through video, because that’s the role. It’s their craft, and that's what matters most for the role, right? I didn't dive into Graphic Designing, VFX, copywriting, influencer marketing, SEO or Performance Ads. But to my surprise, many candidates shared that during other interviews, they’re expected to know graphic design, social media copywriting, VFX, and influencer marketing? too...🤨 One applicant said and I quote "the interviewer said that since I am the one editing the video asset for Meta Ads, I might as well be the one running it"😵💫 Dear companies, 🛑Stop expecting one person to be an expert in all fields. We need to stop stretching roles beyond their core competencies!⚠️ Social media strategy, copywriting, graphic design, performance ads, influencer marketing — these are completely different fields. Each requires deep, specialized skills. We can’t hire a 'jack of all trades' and expect them to deliver at a professional level in each field. Let’s stop placing unrealistic expectations on creatives. Let’s value specialization and expertise.
