How independent contracting gave me a more fulfilling life as a Business Analyst! As a business analyst, I used to feel trapped in a traditional office setting. But life had other plans! In 2021, I was forced to find extra income, and that's when I made the switch to independent contracting. And let me tell you, it's been a game-changer! Fast forward to today, and I'm now a proud parent of a 2-month-old newborn! Being able to work from home and have a flexible schedule has been a lifesaver. I can attend to my little one's needs, and still deliver high-quality work to my clients. One of the best things about independent contracting is the freedom to create my own schedule. I can take breaks to find open shops and do some shopping (no more rushing to catch everything open after 17:00!), and even move some non-critical work tasks to after 18:00. It's amazing how much more balanced my life has become! Independent contracting has given me the autonomy to combine work and family time in a way that brings me greater fulfillment. I'm no longer bound by rigid office hours or commuting time. I'm free to create a schedule that works for me and my family. If you're feeling stuck in your traditional 9-to-5, consider taking the leap to independent contracting. You never know the possibilities that await you! #RemoteWork #IndependentContracting #BusinessAnalysis #BA #WorkLifeBalance #Fulfillment #Autonomy #Flexibility #FamilyFirst #CareerGrowth #NewParent

From Electrical Engineer to Data Analyst 🚀 Starting off with my career as an Electrical Engineer, I always felt something was missing. I wanted to solve bigger problems, make a real impact, and keep up with where the world was headed. I had a strong interest in programming and problem-solving, but I wasn’t fully tapping into it. My journey into data analytics started with my first role at EMPG, where I built my foundation in SQL, data visualization, and core analytics concepts. This was the start of something exciting. Moving to Uber (Careem QUIK) brought hands-on experience with advanced SQL, deeper visualizations, and challenging problem-solving. It wasn’t easy—I put in long hours, validated every insight, and refined my methods because I knew decisions were being made based on my work. Today, at Suncor, I’m leading analytics initiatives, introducing metrics that measure customer engagement, retention, and the effectiveness of marketing campaigns—all powered by data. I see the impact of my work daily, and it’s clear that stepping into this field was worth every challenge. ✨ My advice for anyone looking to pivot? Be relentless. Embrace the learning curve. Trust the process. Each skill you build opens doors you never imagined. What’s your career pivot story? Share below ⬇️ #CareerTransition #CareerPivot #DataAnalytics #TechJourney

Data Analyst & Special Projects Manager ... Sounds like a position that every big fire department and EMS agency could use, right? Places covering a population of, let's say, 250k and higher ... rather than having multiple chiefs/managers tackle various job roles, this position would be specifically hired to tackle it for the department/agency. - Data tracking and reporting - Grants management - Accreditation management - Annual reporting - GIS collaboration - Community risk analysis - Project research Sounds fun, huh? What about those departments/agencies that don't have this position, but still have this need ... maybe part-time? What about hiring a contractor to perform some of this for you on your behalf ... 10-20 hours of work each week, or even month, let's say? If this need describes your department/agency, let's talk ... I may have a solution for you! PM me to continue the conversation.

My 10 years in #Railways! Sky is the limit! When I first stepped into the world of railways ten years ago, I had no idea where this journey would take me. From starting with one of the largest freight railway companies, to joining #SiemensMobility exactly 7 years ago, it's been a road paved with learning, challenges, and growth. Along the way, I've worked across two countries, gaining unique insights into different business approaches. I collaborated with five nations on local and international projects, working in Customer Services with Rolling Stock and Rail Infrastructure. My roles were varied — service desk operator, depot data analyst, data scientist for components health (or they say in a fancy way: field experience manager), R&D team lead, and initiative launcher. But each one was a major milestone, preparing me for where I stand today, fully embracing the role of #EnterpriseArchitect within Siemens Mobility Customer Services. As an Enterprise Architect, I guide the creation and maintenance of the SMO CS architecture portfolio. This role involves steering the solution architecture community, ensuring our strategies align with technological trends, and overseeing the models that reflect our vision and domain expertise. Whether it’s shaping new standards or supporting management decisions, my work is about integration—between teams, methodologies, and visions. None of this journey would have been possible without the incredible support and guidance of the people I've worked with. To the bosses who believed in me, challenged me, and pushed me to grow—thank you for showing me what true leadership looks like. Each of you played a pivotal role in shaping not just my career, but my perspective on what it means to lead with integrity and vision. To my colleagues, your collaboration, insights, and unwavering commitment have been a constant source of inspiration. Together, we’ve built initiatives, tackled challenges, and set new standards. The journey we’ve been on together is a testament to the power of teamwork. As I look to the future, I’m equally excited about the new teams, projects, and leaders I will work with. There’s an undeniable energy in the opportunities ahead, and I know that the same spirit of collaboration will drive us forward. I look forward to learning from and contributing to the future bosses and teams, knowing that together, we will shape something even greater. The future is bright, and as we move forward, let’s continue to build, inspire, and lead with purpose! 🚀

We caught up with Rosie, one of our analysts, to find out what she likes about being part of the consultancy team. What do you like best about your job? I like that it’s a friendly and supportive atmosphere and the nature of project work means you meet people from all over FirstGroup’s businesses, so over time, you build up a great network of people. You also get to explore different areas of the business and can specialise if you want or keep moving around to learn about new things. The culture is very supportive of developing opportunities to explore which direction you want to go in. What’s the most exciting project you've worked on? My favourite project at First Rail Consultancy so far has been working as an analyst on a large bid. It was a fun and challenging environment with a great team focused on delivering a common goal. We were working to short timescales to deliver all that was needed but it all came together and I learnt a lot in the process. What does your day to day look like? Every day can be very different, depending on the type of project you’re on. The common theme to my work is: someone will have a question they would like support in finding out the answer using the data available to our industry. So, my support may be, carrying out analysis to understand more about the question or problem that has been raised, and then suggesting and/or developing a solution. Therefore, my day to day may be spent, speaking with colleagues to learn more about the subject or presenting findings, seeking and gathering data and information required, puzzling through a potential way of approaching a problem to decide on the best solution.

Get to know Ana-Maria A., our New Business Analyst in Romania 👋 Q: What was your inner drive for making this change? A: After the COVID pandemic began, working from home made me feel increasingly isolated from my colleagues and teammates. As a programmer, it was easy to work independently, which seemed beneficial at first due to the flexible schedule. However, it also lacked social engagement with team members. I felt stuck in a routine and needed something new to rekindle my interest. Transitioning from programmer to business analyst offers me the chance to learn new things and be more involved in my projects. Q: What responsibilities does your new role bring? A: As a Business Analyst, my main role is to help the company progress from its current state to where it aims to be. This involves evaluating processes and procedures, identifying necessary changes, and presenting my findings. Q: Can you tell us about your professional path and what led you to choose Realworld Systems and this field? A: I joined Realworld Systems in 2006, while still completing my university studies. I found developing GIS software both interesting and challenging. Over the years, I worked primarily on Smallworld projects for various telecom industry clients. Q: What does evolution mean to you, and what are the main skills that have helped you perform in this field? A: Evolution, for me, means recognizing when change is necessary and having the courage to pursue it. It involves stepping out of your comfort zone and working hard to achieve personal and professional growth. The skills that have helped me most are being logical, organized, and open to discussions. Q: What do you like to do in your free time? A: I enjoy spending my free time with my family – hiking in the mountains, playing cards or board games, and sometimes just watching TV shows or sports games. When I have some alone time, I like running or reading a good book. #team #realworlders #ourteam #businessanalyst
