Following the success of the PJS project, Peoples Environmental Planning (PEP) partnered with local communities and stakeholders to bring lighting to four nearby informal settlements. In a participatory approach, community members—many women—played a crucial role in planning and installing the lights, receiving training and daily payment for their work. Their efforts have created a lasting sense of pride and ownership in the community. 👉Learn more about PEP’s solar lighting work and its impact by reading the article below ⬇️. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eEFCr__8

How can local building departments foster resilient communities by implementing and enforcing efficiency, energy safety codes? Efficiency, energy and safety codes play a crucial role in fostering resilient communities across the country. Many jurisdictions have implemented effective strategies to enhance resilience in the face of various challenges. These strategies often include the adoption and enforcement of stringent building codes that prioritize energy efficiency and safety. By adhering to current codes, regions can better withstand environmental and safety risks. Additionally, community education and outreach programs play a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of resilience and encouraging compliance with established codes. Overall, a comprehensive approach that integrates efficient building practices, energy conservation measures and robust safety codes contributes to the creation of #resilient communities nationwide. For a deeper dive into these topics and more, listen to experts from across the country in this recorded webinar on Efficiency, Energy and Safety Codes: What Is Working Around the County to Foster Resilient Communities ⬇

New/updated PINS Advice Pages out today for the following: Working with public bodies in the infrastructure planning process’ Cumulative Effects Assessment Transboundary Impacts and Process Habitats Regulations Assessments’ Water Framework Directive’ EIA Notification and Consultation Commitments Register Technical Advice Page for Scoping Solar Development We are looking at the technical notes, but the latter two are the most interesting - the Commitments Register is a new deliverable expected to be delivered at Scoping, PEIR, Application and at during Examination. The Solar Scoping Note is really welcomed - providing a clear steer on what information should be provided to enable scoping out to be achieved - hopefully leading to more proportionate ESs (and therefore Examination). It even sets out that PINS agrees the pretty standard approach that Glint and Glare, Lighting and EMF don't need to be separate chapters... https://lnkd.in/e3xfTWQX

Are you encountering challenges with community acceptance, neighbor consent, and council permit approvals crucial for your solar projects, particularly on land near residential or industrial areas? We offer a solution: The PEG® addresses these challenges effectively with the following features: Low profile racking - Significantly reduces visual impact (height ~1m (~3.3ft) above ground) - Easily blends into the environment - Easily concealed by low profile vegetation Shallow foundation - Shallow foundation of less than 0.8m (2.6ft) without concrete - Reduces council permitting and environmental risks - Reduces risks of landlord’s refusal due to fears of decommissioning at the end of project life #PEGEW #JT #JurchenTechnology

QCOSS is excited to be working with Neighbourhood Centres Queensland, Energetic Communities Association Inc. and the Department of Energy and Climate on ChargeUp! We're helping 20 different neighbourhood centres better understand the energy system and energy efficiency so they can support their communities to reduce their energy bills. We'll be rolling out a range of resources in the new year, and we'll be continuing to support neighbourhood centres to provide energy efficiency advice to help keep energy bills down for Queenslanders experiencing hardship. We have submitted our public comments on the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed Mannar Wind Power Project (phase 2) This was a collaborative comment with @environmentalfoundationlimited @srilankayza @mecsofsl and FogSL Our focus was mainly on the proposed Jetty planned to be constructed south of Mannar Island to transport rotors through large barges or transport vessels. Based on our surveys we have conducted in the vicinity, the depth of the seabed is not sufficient for any barge or vessel to voyage through. Possible construction without proper a EIA could result in significant impact on the marine ecosystem.

When developing solar projects on landfills or brownfields, it could be easy to assume that the usual environmental considerations don’t apply. After all, these sites are already disturbed, so what’s the harm in adding solar systems? However, as instructor Lucia Woo explains in the free Solar Development on Brownfields and Landfills course, the permitting process for these projects is more complex than many people realize. From wetland delineations to protected species assessments, there are a host of ecological factors that need to be carefully evaluated, even on previously contaminated lands. On top of that, developers still need to navigate the typical zoning laws, coordinate with state and regional authorities, and work closely with local utilities on interconnection throughout the process. While solar development on landfills and brownfields can be a great way to repurpose disturbed sites, it’s crucial to approach these projects with a full understanding of the unique permitting challenges they entail. Tune into this video clip to hear an overview of some of those permitting requirements and enroll in the free course to learn more about Solar Development on Brownfields and Landfills from the expert team at LaBella Associates.
