Persistence is key to leadership — whether in the executive suite or on the playing field. When times are tough, people look to their leaders to give them a reason to push through. Doug Williams, previously an NFL quarterback and former head coach of the Grambling State Tigers, once said, “Never give up, never give in, and when the upper hand is ours, may we have the ability to handle the win with the dignity that we absorbed the loss.” As the first Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, he knew a thing or two about adversity — and about the rewards of seeing it through with grace and confidence. Yesterday, I shared a post on wake-up calls that business professionals may have experienced. Please listen in, and remember, the steps below are how I overcame it, leading to a 9-year NFL career: ▶️ Why did this happen? ▶️ What can I learn from it? ▶️ Create a game plan to overcome it! ▶️ Put in consistent work to turn it into a competitive advantage. The key takeaway about wake-up calls is that you have a choice: either to improve or to remain stagnant. Congratulations to Caleb Williams, the quarterback from USC, for being selected first in the 2024 NFL Draft. It's crucial to hire the right talent, whether it be in business or sports. Every company must strive to hire top talent, but it's equally important to provide them with organizational support to enable their success. #leadership #business #NFL #education #learninganddevelopment

As Super Bowl LVIII approaches, Christian Ponder, our CEO, shared a perspective in a recent article by DJ Siddiqi in Forbes this week that resonates both on the field and in the corporate arena. “It's so funny how being a game manager is a knock on quarterbacks. Isn't that what you want? Isn't that what a quarterback is? You manage the game. You limit turnovers, get the ball to the playmakers, let them do it.” Christian was referring to Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers being labeled as a “game manager” by some in the media; however, this insight underscores a critical parallel in business: effective leaders, much like quarterbacks, are game managers. At The Post, we recognize that athletes carry these leadership qualities from their playing days into their business careers. As we support our chosen teams this weekend, let's also celebrate the invaluable lessons in team management that sports impart—lessons that our Members apply daily to navigate the complexities of business leadership. https://lnkd.in/eE2cCbdN #ThePost #BuiltBySport #SuperBowlLVIII #Leadership #BusinessStrategy #TeamManagement #quarterback #AthleteInsights #49ers

I was delivering a leadership program in an organization it was fortunate enough to have the then CEO at the time, Simon Wickham, attend for the portion on courageous conversations, and made the observation that “These conversations are never easy, but they do get easier”. if you're new to leadership and even newer to these kinds of conversations be careful not to permit yourself to expect these to ever be easy, but with every difficult conversation that you have, you'll increasingly feel your confidence rise just simply from the fact that (to use a cricket metaphor) “you've spent time at the crease”, meaning confidence comes not from batting well, but getting out there on the pitch and facing bowlers, time and time again. #courageousconversations #courageousleadership
