ICYMI. The ARL took in 46 MORE dogs from the SAME commercial breeder we rescued nearly 100 dogs from last fall. As a community, we have to ask more questions. 👉🏼Why does this continue to happen? 👉🏼Why was this licensed commercial breeder allowed the opportunity to reoffend? 👉🏼What changes need to be made from the agencies who oversee licensed breeders on the inspection/licensing process so this doesn’t continue to happen? 👉🏼How do we ensure commercial breeders are giving adequate care, physically and mentally, to the animals under their supervision? 👉🏼How many more animals have to suffer before changes are made? Now is a great time to sign up to receive Action Alerts from the ARL’s Humane Action Network so you can be alerted to when YOU can take action to help strengthen animal welfare in Iowa. Sign up at ARL-Iowa.org/HAN, and be sure to like the ARL Humane Action Network Facebook page to stay in the know about animal issues in Iowa and beyond. https://lnkd.in/g69C7bvg

For #PhilanthropyFriday we’re checking out Michigan Animal Rescue League 🐾 The Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) is one of southeast Michigan’s most established animal shelters, serving the community since 1953. Their history and experience combined with constant evaluation of trends in animal welfare and sheltering have made them a necessary and respected asset within the community. As, “A Different Breed of Shelter” they challenge the stereotypes of traditional animal shelters and believe that the, “Quality of the Wait,” can make all the difference in the future of an animal!❤️ The Mission of the Michigan Animal Rescue League is to provide the highest quality of life to dogs and cats through rescue, medical care, socialization and behavioral support, short- and long-term sanctuary, adoption, and community education and outreach. Adjusting to the shelter environment can be hard for dogs and cats. While MARL’s staff and volunteers make every effort to make their temporary home welcoming, the shelter is still often a place where dogs and cats find themselves confined in an unfamiliar environment, separated from their previous families, and exposed to much more noise than they’re used to. This is where MARL’a enrichment program comes in! Enrichment is a term that describes how shelter environments can be adjusted and enhanced to better benefit each animal. The goal of enrichment is to minimize stress levels by adding different kinds of stimulation and activities to each animal’s daily routine. People often wonder about how they can get involved with animal welfare activities. On a small scale, one way to change the life of an animal in need is to get involved in animal transport. This could involve transporting animals from a shelter environment to a rescue group, foster home, or a potential adopter. Watch this video from Humane Rescue Alliance to learn more about how transporting animals saves lives and opportunities to get involved with an organization in your area https://lnkd.in/gaxsMkwq #transportsaveslives #rescue #animalwelfare #webinar #education #transport #animalrescue #animals #humananimalinteraction #humananimalbond #knowledgeispower

Integrated Resources Institute wishes everyone a Happy International Assistance Dog Week! August 4-10, 2024 is International Assistance Dog Week! It is a week where we recognize the hard work of assistance dogs that help people with disabilities. Here are some ways you can celebrate! Participate in a local event: Participate in a dog walk, fundraiser, or dog show to learn about the different tasks assistance dogs perform, such as seizure detection and seeing-eye work. Volunteer for Animal Welfare: You could volunteer at your local animal shelter, help with an adoption drive, aid a rescue, or help local organizations care for puppies and dogs in training. Educate: Research different types of assistance dogs and their roles around the world, and help spread awareness and correct misinformation. #IRI #EverybodyWorks #InternationalAssitanceDogWeek #ServiceAnimal Image Description: This image is in the format of an informational flyer. The information on the flyer is what is stated in the caption of this post. The background color is a light peach and there are 4 graphics of assistance dogs placed on top by the title as well as next to each of the 3 ways someone could celebrate this week. There are also paw prints scattered on either side of the post.

October is National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month 💜 Rescues Are The Greatest Gift 💝 All of my dogs -- all Pugs, and we miss them all so much -- have been rescues. Let me put some fears to rest about adopting a rescue. According to statistics from Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters, animals are abandoned in two out of three cases BECAUSE OF HUMAN PROBLEMS -- not because something is wrong the pet; that is not why most pets are given up. It's rarely about the animals behavior. The most common causes of surrendering a pet to a shelter are, first, housing issues, then finances, the owner's death or illness, and only last, a poor pet-person connection. Please consider sharing a photo (or photos) and story of your sweet, beautiful rescue(s) with us on City Pets Vets FB page -- the direct link is in the comments directly below -- and tag us so we can share your love for each other on our social media. #NationalAdoptAShelterDogMonth #AnimalRescues #AnimalShelters #AdoptDontShop
