When I first joined Leaderonomics, I couldn’t grasp the idea of a learning simulation. Coming from a chemical engineering background, simulations meant testing equipment and processes under various conditions. So, it really wasn’t immediately clear to me how these simulations translated to developing leadership and business skills. Fast forward to my first Silega simulation, it was a WOW moment for me! The simulation transported me to a completely different world, where my team and I were put into the driver's seat, with a goal we need to achieve. Every decision mattered, and the pressure was on! 🥶(in a good way!) I was really competitive, but there was also a sense of security. I knew that no matter what happened, it was a safe space to learn and experiment with no real-world consequences. This pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Imagine being tasked with hitting a $300 mil target, or convincing an entire management team to embrace a significant change – all within a few hours! It was intense, but incredibly eye-opening. Many learnings I have gained from these simulations have stuck with me and continue to help me approach real-world challenges with a fresh perspective. Self reminder, I just want to share the story of this afternoon's discussion with a friend of mine who works as a Human Resources Director at a big MNC company in Indonesia. According to him it is characteristic of people who will be difficult to ascend positions in the company: The first is : Too perfectionist, people like this are too focused on one job and want everything to be perfect until he forgets to deliver the results. The second is : His IQ is high but his attitude is low, he's smart but he doesn't want to listen to the input of others because he always feels right. Almost every job requires teammates and teamwork. The third one is : not great communicating, if you notice, our superiors are not the smartest, not the most technical, but they're great communicating. And good communication is knowing when to speak, knowing where to listen. The fourth is: Someone who's great technically but doesn't know how to manage people and organize things. From time to time, I've always been advised by my mentor that the higher our position, the more we don't deal with technical things, but we better regulate how we manage the team and make the right strategy to contribute profits to the company. So the conclusion is the value of the "IPK" is not the main measure, but soft skills.
