After a freezing few days, National Tree Week has started with Storm Bert in full force. For all the horticulturists working through all weather, including arborists dealing with the aftermath of storm damage, remember we're here to support you. We all rely on the survival of bees, don't we? Human activities are increasingly threatening bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds. Pollination is a fundamental process for the survival of our ecosystem. Trees for the bees: Willows (Salix), Ash tree (Fraxinus ornus), Norway maple (Acer platanoides), Fruit trees (Prunus, Malus and Pyrus) and many more. #plantatree #ecosystem #bees

We understand that some of the language used by those in the arboriculture industry can be confusing to those of you who aren’t experts in the field. Therefore, in the coming weeks, we are going to break down some of the most important terms for you. In the context of trees, a cavity is a hole normally associated with decay or deterioration of the woody tissues. #arboriculture #arborist #infrastructure #arbservices #arboricultureservices #morrisarb #treespecialist #treesurgeon

As arboriculturists, it is probably unsurprising that we love trees. We also know that nearly everyone has a soft spot for trees but might always know that much about particular species. We really enjoy sharing our knowledge and experience and there is no better way than placing a spotlight on a tree each month in our ‘What tree?’ feature. Can you guess the tree this month? Which tree once stood on a hill overlooking Glastonbury Tor? And although the original tree isn’t there anymore, sprouting branches from its descendants are sent each Christmas to the reigning monarch. #TreeFrontiers #TreeNews #Arboriculture #TreeCare #GlastonburyLegend #WhatTree #GuesstheTree

Did you know fritillary butterflies declined by 60% between 1990 and 2021? 🦋 We've been shining a light on some of Somerset's insects throughout #InsectWeek. Unfortunately, one of the key findings from our Somerset State of Nature Report was the steep decline of fritillary butterflies. The marsh fritillary butterfly is also now considered extinct in Somerset. Insect populations across the UK are experiencing significant declines, which is why it is vital we continue to collect information about their populations and breeding habits. Sharing any sightings you make of species like butterflies, bees, and beetles through platforms like iNaturalist can have a very real impact on these species — as it can make us aware of declines like this. 🔎 Set up an account with iNaturalist today and help us learn more about our insects: https://lnkd.in/eYeEiPUv #Somerset #Wildlife #Insects

Bumblebees represent one of the few pollinator species that are strong enough to pollinate the flowers of the False Gromwell (Onosmodium molle) or Marbleseed plant. Check out how the bumblebee works the tightly closed flower. #Prairie #NativeSeeds #NativePlants #Pollinators #Wildflowers #bumblebee

FALL COLORS.. aka Leaf senescence is the final stage of a leaf's development, where it undergoes a controlled process of breakdown and nutrient recycling, resulting in the yellowing of the leaf and the translocation of nutrients back to the plant's stem for storage, essentially marking the end of the leaf's life cycle and considered a critical part of a plant's fitness; it is characterized by the loss of chlorophyll and degradation of cellular components, primarily regulated by genetic signals and environmental cues. #tree #trees #heavyequipment #treehugger #treehuggers #operator #arborist #arborists #isacertifiedarborist #arboriculture #horticulture #aeriallift #treepruning #treework #treeworker #treecare #treeservice #treelife #treecompany #treebusiness #treepreservation #planthealthcare #treewellness #treesurgeon #fall #leafsenescence

Macrophotography of a bee covered in pollen. Bees don't just make honey. They do something essential for the world’s plant diversity: pollination. Its preservation and its habitat benefits us all. 📸 Kutub Uddin

Interesting article on the impact of deer browse. What they didn't evaluate is individual seedling/sapling treatment using big game repellent such as #TRICOPRO. If you treat just the #seedling then #ungulates such as #deer have other forage to eat in-between the seedlings. Fencing allows all the other forage such as brush and grasses to flourish and compete against the seedlings. #forestry, #restoration, #reforestation, #wildlife, #planting
