Generations after us is falling behind. We need to step up. We are up today because of the sacrifices and responsibilities of those before us who paved the way, who created ways and systems and structures, those who crawled and walked so we could walk and run, those who made hard things look easy for us so we could brood and grow and improve on the structures they built. It is now our responsibility to do same for the generation behind us. We cannot let the labour of our heroes past and ours go into vain. We have to take up spaces and responsibilities to build the younger ones so they do the same for the ones after them. Paying it forward, going in cycles but improved cycles. It is in our court now, the ball. Left with us is the leadership, management, control, power, authority to make better and lasting decisions that will be able to serve our generations and even 4 to 5 generations to come because we made wise use of every gold, silver, granite and what have we. I urge you to not live a mediocre life. I urge you to become a better example to these young ones so that the essence of greatness and great work and life do not go into extinction. I urge you to be more than you can be. I urge you to not welcome mediocrity and non chalant attitude. When talking about the problem of refugees, we use dehumanised language, which reduces human tragedy to numbers and statistics. But this suffering concerns real people, who – just like us - have families, loved ones, friends; their own stories, dreams, goals... Only when you sit down opposite a specific person and look into their eyes, you no longer see an anonymous refugee, one of the migrants, and notice the human before you, just like yourself – loving, suffering, dreaming... 20 years ago, psychologist Arthur Aron discovered that 4 minutes of looking into each other's eyes can bring people closer. Using this discovery, we decided to carry out a simple experiment, during which refugees and Europeans sat opposite each other and looked into each other's eyes. Clearly, it is most important to give each other time to better understand and get to know each other. The experiment was conducted in Berlin: the city, which - first of all - is a symbol of overcoming the divisions, and secondly, seems to be the centre of the contemporary Europe. We wanted the movie created on the basis of the experiment to be as symbolic as possible – and to touch upon the general divisions between people. The experiment participants were ordinary people. The situations were not staged; we wanted to get natural, spontaneous reactions. The people sitting opposite each other had not known each other before and saw each other for the first time during the experiment. What is important, the refugees mostly came from Syria and had not been living in Europe for longer than a year.

Flying back home from the State Visit through JFK airport, I'm thinking about this Friday's words from H.E President Ruto "remove all taxes for companies that locally manufacture the first 100.000 electric vehicles" This is an ambitious push by the Government of Kenya and I can't help but think of the words from John F Kennedy at Rice stadium Little over 60 years ago, around the time of Kenya's independence and the start of US - Kenyan diplomatic relations. A relation build on shared values of democracy, rule of law, inclusivity and equality I must have watched that speech at least a hundred times and still I get goosebumps thinking about it: "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win." There's a reason why only a select few regions in the world have an automotive sector; München, Guangdong, Detroit. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a whole ecosystem to bring forth a vehicle; universities, raw material processing, testing facilities, a long chain of tier suppliers. A green automotive sector is a tree which takes time and effort to grow, but one which will bear fruit for decades to come. We have the roots, now its time to grow.
