Would you have expected this? Practical ways to achieve sustainability in space 🎯 At PeriSpace, we use Design Thinking to explore the challenges of space sustainability. During the empathize phase, we conducted empathy interviews, which helped us define an important problem: How can we develop and implement cost-effective solutions that maximize spacecraft utilization while reducing the risk for the space environment? 💡Active Debris Removal (ADR) is vital for long-term sustainability; however, we found that In-Orbit Servicing (IOS) offers a more practical opportunity to build a strong business case and address this problem effectively. This understanding inspired our focus on In-Orbit Servicing —a transformative concept that could extend satellite lifespans, improve operational efficiency, and offer cost-effective solutions to sustain the industry. Our Relocation and Station-Keeping services aim to help satellite operators achieve long-term sustainability, driving innovation in space exploration and ensuring the future of space benefits us all. 🛰️Commercialising In-Orbit Servicing🛰️ I truly believe that a move away from single use space technology and towards full reusability is paramount if humanity wishes to sustain a presence on the Moon and beyond. That's what makes the development of in-orbit servicing for satellites so crucial! As part of the ESA Green Space Challenge, my teammates and I are working on ways to commercialise the field of In-Orbit Servicing by focusing first on providing life extension services to geostationary satellites to address the problem of fuel depletion. We see this as the perfect stepping stone to build a full on-orbit servicing business on with the goal of complete space technology reusability being the main goal. Special thanks to everyone that agreed to talk to us to give us their valuable insights on this topic. We can't wait to share with you what we've learned and worked on over the course of this challenge!🚀 Feel free to reach out and connect if you find this interesting. Would love to hear the differing opinions on in-orbit servicing.🙌🏾 #SpaceTechnology #OnOrbitServicing #SpaceExploration #Sustainability #Innovation #NewSpaceEra #SpaceDebris #FutureTech

Space is a strategic domain that shapes national security, technological progress and economic growth. What does it mean for a country or a union of countries to have an independent access to space? Here are two key requirements: 1) they must design, build, and operate their own launch vehicles capable of placing satellites into orbit; 2) they must have a launch site or facility from which they can independently launch their satellites. As space becomes increasingly contested and commercialized, countries without independent access risk being left behind in the new space economy and strategic landscape. #SpaceTechnology #StrategicCapabilities #Innovation #GlobalStrategy

🚀 Capacity crunch for launchers and the places they launch from: 🚀 At #WorldSatelliteBusinessWeek this year, one of the most critical topics of conversation was the increasing strain on global launch capacity. With the largest constellations like Starlink, Kuiper and Eutelsat OneWeb driving current launch demand and taking up the manifest on the biggest launchers, there are plenty of planned future constellations name checking just a few such as the Outernet, Lightspeed and the EU’s IRIS², we’re starting to see a global backlog that will become more constrained as new players enter the space. 🌍 📡 Lofting satellites for connectivity is but one requirement for launchers of various sizes. Observation satellites, constellation servicing, space-based manufacturing and deployment of space tech such as solar power, space data centres, asteroid mining, private space travel, space exploration and research missions… All this space tech will need fast and flexible launch companies and convenient places to launch from. The future of space access relies on innovative solutions, new ground infrastructure, and a re-think about how – and where - we launch. Here at OLM - Orbital Launch Means we’re gearing up to be one of those new infrastructure partners in Europe. 🚀To Space. From the ground up.🚀 #space #satellite #launch #innovation #technology #capacity #Aerospace #Spaceport #GroundInfrastructure #Sardinia #NewBeginnings #SpaceIndustry
