Lockheed Martin's 1Q24 Earnings Call: Sales for the quarter increased by 14%, driven by geopolitical instability and strong demand for key programs. The company maintained a $159 billion backlog, with positive budget developments, including a $95 billion funding package under consideration for Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific security, bolstering growth prospects. Despite no F-35 deliveries in Q1, Lockheed anticipates delivering 75-110 aircraft this year. The Czech Republic, Greece, and Singapore continued or initiated commitments to purchase F-35s, further evidencing international demand. Additionally, Lockheed secured a significant win with the Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI) contract, showcasing its digital transformation. Although the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft program was canceled, Sikorsky's outlook remains stable due to its strong backlog and commitments to Black Hawk production and modernization. Management reiterated full-year financial guidance. The call also highlighted several risks: 1/ Supply Chain Issues: Challenges have impacted the production and delivery of F-35 jets. 2/ Technical Complexity of the F-35 TR-3 Upgrade: The F-35 program is experiencing delays with the TR-3 upgrade, which introduces new core processor, data storage unit, and pilot display capabilities. 3/ Classified Missile Program Losses: The Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) segment acknowledged an anticipated $100 million reach-forward loss associated with a classified missile program. Additional losses could potentially exceed $1 billion, and there is uncertainty regarding the timing of these losses, although they are expected to impact margins in the short term.
