📆 After another year of exploring new tips and tricks for eye gaze means I've learned a ton of new ways to get the most out of eye gaze as assistive technology, and want to share my top tips! Did you know people can communicate using just their eyes? Eye tracking is an incredible assistive technology that helps individuals with physical disabilities or who use alternative communication methods to connect and access their devices. Many apps are now compatible with eye tracking, making technology more inclusive and empowering for everyone. ✨ 👉 See the different types of apps you can use with the Hiru eye tracker from Irisbond on our App Wheel! https://lnkd.in/dFbFD4fq #IRISBOND #EYEam #AssistiveTechnology #Apple

You cannot have accessible buses without accessible information and accessible information requires accessible communication, which in turn requires accessible choices for both visual and audio information, without digital exclusion barriers. Visual, digital, real-time bus stop displays are largely inaccessible to many people; however, accessible audio can make these desired and helpful assets accessible for all. Accessible audio requires choices for activation, with the React Trigger System offering three accessible approaches. The React access trigger app; personal fob trigger; and communal push-button trigger. Not everyone can see or physically access a communal push-button, so we offer a free automatic smart phone app on Ios and Android. Not everyone has or will use a smartphone, so we offer a personal automatic fob, thereby covering all access needs and requirements making digital displays truly accessible for all. Video Description: Shows a person sitting one end of long bus shelter in West Midlands Combined Authority and Transport for West Midlands bus station, that has a digital display the other end. You can’t read the display from where the person is seated. Using SiRi voice command they open the React app which launchs straight into discovery scanning and automatically makes the digital bus stop display clearly announce the bus departure information. The process is simple and effortless. ‘In-phone’ the app delivers audio and visual notification of the bus stop name. With normal scanning mode, the person ‘connects’ to the display and triggers audio on-demand, with the option for directly and securely opening a bus stop specific web page where the same information can be discreetly ‘heard and seen’ using voiceover and talkback. #Signage #Accessibility #PublicTransport #Audiovisual #Equality #Blind #VisualImpairment #SighLoss

Do you ever wonder if you might have scoliosis? It's a condition where the spine curves sideways, and it's more common than you might think! Here's a quick test you can do at home: the forward bending test. Simply stand up straight, bend forward at the waist, and let your arms hang down toward the floor. Take a look at your back while in this position. If you notice any unevenness or asymmetry in your spine, it could be a sign of scoliosis. But fear not! There's an easy way to monitor your spine health right from your smartphone. 📱 Introducing the Scoliometer App, available for both iPhone and Android devices. This handy app allows you to measure the degree of spinal rotation and track changes over time, all from the comfort of your own home. Whether you're curious about your spine's alignment or want to keep tabs on any existing scoliosis, the Scoliometer App is your go-to tool. Download it today and take charge of your spinal health! 💪 https://scoliometer.app/ #scoliolife #scoliosis #scoliosistreatment #scoliosisexercise #healthcareproduct #scoliosisclinic #treatments #spinetreatment #bodytreatment #spine #healthcare #healthcareprofessionals

Accessibility shouldn’t stop at desktop. 📱 Responsive tools ensure that users with disabilities can access your site seamlessly on any device. When accessibility tools fail to function on mobile, you risk locking out a huge part of your audience. Optimize for all screens to make your site truly inclusive. #WebAccessibility #ResponsiveDesign #InclusiveWeb Image Description: A giant smartphone laying on the ground. We've made an epic investment into creating, and living, Tomopai, our accessibility framework for digital products. Now at Alphero we are building an accessible keyboard for mobile devices. I'm excited! I was quite shocked when I found the lack of options (and the cost) of some of the accessibility and communication tools available in various app stores. It's not great. My Mum has Friedreichs Ataxia (a sh*t of a disease similar to motor neuron disease) and lives in another city, away from myself, my brother and extended family and friends around the world. She is a power user of Apple devices, and till recently was keeping connected via WhatsApp and the internet. I'd noticed that her communication was becoming increasingly sporadic and infrequent as her FA has progressed, with reduced her motor coordination around touch and grip. Her eyesight is great, so adjusting baseline accessibility font controls isn't helpful to her. What we are hoping to do is create a keyboard for iOS and Android that is optimised for people struggling with touch accuracy. We'll make it available via the app stores and potentially as an SDK for 3rd party apps. Right now we're seeking some volunteers (preferably in Wellington in the first instance) to try different iterations / versions and give us feedback. If you or someone you know are having issues with touch / gesture accuracy on standard iOS/Android keyboards and would be keen to get a more effective keyboard ... feel free to comment below or DM me. If you are wider afield and would like to join a later round of testing... also let us know. #accessibility #accessible #keyboard #accessiblekeyboard #ios #android #mobile #digital
We're building an accessible keyboard for iPhone and Android phones, and hoping for some volunteers to provide feedback (ideally in Wellington initially, but we'll expand it out to Auckland and wider when we get it closer to where it needs to be). Caroline Dewe our CEO has a Mum with Friedreichs Ataxia (a disease causing progressive damage to the nervous system). As she gradually lost mobility, motion and speech her world has narrowed to her phone and tablet which are windows to friends and family, everywhere. She had been having increasing issues with touch accuracy on her phone - to the point of it taking an afternoon to send a brief message. And then giving up. After a moment of outrage as Caroline sifted her way through the slim (and expensive) pickings that are accessible keypads and communication tools for device users, she decided we will create one ourselves! Many accessible keyboards or tools assume either that you have touch accuracy but can't talk; or that you have speech accuracy but cannot touch. Few assume that you have issues with both. Or they use pictures that just aren't relevant (e.g. a shortcut for 'pass me my skateboard', for a woman in her 80s in a wheelchair, seriously). We are focusing specifically on a mobile keyboard that will better enable users struggling with touch accuracy to use their device keyboard to communicate, and complete tasks online and in-apps. It would be best suited for people with conditions like Fredreichs Ataxia, Parkinsons, ALS - or any situation where for short term (eg hand injuries) or long term the user might struggle with fine motor coordination, swipe gesture control, and keyboard accuracy. We are creating two versions with different interaction patterns to test. We freely admit we're not experts in this stuff but we know mobile, have a strong investment in insuring our own digital services are accessible, we know interaction design, we've analysed what's out there. And have a small group of test users providing input so far. If you or a loved one is keen to be involved - comment on this post or DM us or Caroline. #accessibility #digital #mobile #keyboard #parkinsons #als #friedreichsataxia
