For serious mathematics students, I highly recommend delving into TMUA, Oxford MAT, and STEP materials as early as possible. For instance, if you are taking AP Calculus, begin shortly after completing the unit on derivatives and graph analysis. IB HL AA/AI students might start once they’ve covered functions, arithmetic and geometric series, and trigonometry, while A-level students can begin after their first year of study. This suggestion isn’t solely about pursuing admission to universities like Cambridge, Oxford, or Imperial; rather, engaging with these resources will help you grow into a more capable mathematician. I am particularly impressed by how these exams contain challenging exercises that foster genuine mathematical insight and reasoning, all without overwhelming students with the breadth (and usually without sufficient depth) of an undergraduate curriculum. I would suggest this approach over trying to tackle math olympiad contests. It is better use of your time, more systematic and focused unless you are in the small subset of students cut out for that kind of work.

Our new collaboration with CIMPA (Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées) allows talented students from developing countries to come to Tromsø and to learn more: "The Lie-Størmer Center continues to elevate Tromsø’s profile on the global mathematical map, and its mission is clear: to ensure that the city is celebrated not only for its breathtaking Northern Lights and Midnight Sun but also as a hub for groundbreaking mathematical research and education."

I am pleased to annouce our (with Guri A. Nortvedt and Danyal Farsani) publication in Educational Studies in Mathematics of the manuscript "Patterning strategies in grade 1 students with low and high number sense proficiency". Reporting on some of the findings on students' multimodal patterning in my doctoral work, we contribute to the discussion on how to include more students in mathematical tasks important for later mathematical competence.

Infinite Mathematical Aspirations of Indian School Students on this day of National Mathematics Day, December 22, the birthday of India's celebrated Global Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. During his short life, Ramanujan independently compiled nearly 3,900 results (mostly identities and equations). Many were completely novel; his original and highly unconventional results, such as the Ramanujan prime, the Ramanujan theta function, partition formulae and mock theta functions, have opened entire new areas of work and inspired further research. He became one of the youngest Fellows of the The Royal Society and only the second Indian member, and the first Indian to be elected a Fellow of Trinity University of Cambridge. Ramanujan spent nearly five years in Cambridge collaborating with Hardy and Littlewood, and published part of his findings there. Hardy and Ramanujan had highly contrasting personalities. Their collaboration was a clash of different cultures, beliefs, and working styles. Hardy quoted Littlewood as saying, "Every positive integer was one of Ramanujan's personal friends." (Source: Wikipedia). Mathematics is a distant dream for the school students in the rural segment. ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) 2022 survey reveals the decline of basic mathematics abilities of children. As per the report, only 25.9% Class 3 children could do basic arithmetics as compared to 28.2% in 2018. As far as basic maths is concerned, a comprehensive strategy for learning improvement, starting with basic skills, is urgently needed for the upper primary grades (Source: https://lnkd.in/drN-2wTy).
