🌱 Crop rotation is a temporal and spatial sequence of crop cultivation and the selection of a crop each season to be planted in a plot of land or field 🌴 Benefits: 🌳 Building organic matter 🌼 Diversifying the consumption of soil elements by plants from different depths. Deep-rooted plants bring elements from the depths and superficial root plants feed on elements from the surface layer. Legumes in the crop rotation add nitrogen and organic matter to subsequent crops 🌻 Reducing pests 🌲 Dividing crops to build the crop rotation To build the crop rotation: Heavy feeders: such as leafy plants, consume more food than others such as cabbage, spinach, parsley. 🌿 Medium feeders: such as fruit vegetables, such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers 🌾 Light feeders: root crops, including carrots, potatoes, radishes, turnips 🌱 Nutrient source: such as legumes #organic_farming #sustainable_agriculture #organicEgypt

(USA / CHILE 06.12.24) #blueberries 2024/25 Chilean Blueberry Season Highlights: High-Quality Harvest and 63% New Varieties [AG: What are the key highlights, outlook and forecasts for the 2024/25 Australian blueberry and berry season?] The 2024/2025 Chilean blueberry season sees a shift toward new varieties, now comprising 63% of exports, to stay competitive. Despite delays from weather, the harvest is of exceptional quality. The Chilean Blueberry Committee's https://lnkd.in/gUzSfu6y focus on varietal renewal, quality control, and post-harvest improvements, coupled with increased marketing efforts, positions Chile's blueberries for continued success in the global market. ----- [AG: As Chile takes the spotlight with its record-quality blueberries and a bold focus on varietal renewal, one has to wonder - where are the highlights from our own Australian blueberry and berry season? While Chile boasts 63% of exports from new varieties, exceptional fruit quality and impressive marketing efforts, Australia’s berry industry seems to be quietly humming along, without the same fanfare. Are we behind in innovation? Or are we too busy savoring our "laid-back" approach to fresh produce, without the urgency to shift our strategies in such a competitive global market? While other countries push the envelope on quality and market access, we seem to be waiting for our own berries to ripen. It’s time to ask: what’s next for our Australian berry industry? Will we follow Chile’s lead, or are we content with being overshadowed by more proactive global producers?] ----- https://lnkd.in/gE8SBb-F

Harvests Harvesting ripe tomatoes marks an upturn of diligent care and nurturing. As the fruits ripen to vibrant hues of red, yellow, and orange, they become a testament to the efforts invested in their growth. Each tomato is carefully plucked from the vine, ensuring only the finest quality is selected for market. Timing is crucial; tomatoes are harvested when fully ripe to maximize flavor and nutrition Prepare Once harvested, the tomatoes undergo careful inspection and sorting. Presentation is key; each crate is arranged to showcase the tomatoes' vibrant colors and uniform size, appealing to potential buyers. Tomato Market Alert: 8.8.2024 The tomato market has been unstable since the beginning of the year; some of this due to a reduction in acreage planted, but most is due to the persistent pressure of Mother Nature. We are now facing some trying times over the next month and possibly beyond. California has been impacted by multiple weeks of extreme heat which has caused several growers to curtail their harvest due to high losses and poor production yields. In the east, consistent precipitation and heat pressure have impacted quality leaving us reliant on Mexico for a majority of the production. To further complicate this, we continue to track Tropical Storm Debbie which has impacted multiple agriculture regions along the eastern seaboard as it tracks north. We will assess these impacts as regions recover and provide any pertinent updates. Unfortunately, there is not enough supply on round tomatoes to keep the supply chain consistent. We are doing our very best to maintain supply, but are seeing some short falls. We will need to be flexible on size as well as varieties. Substitutions to Roma tomatoes are the primary options where feasible. We are doing our best to avoid this, but unfortunately, we feel it’s necessary to start making the change. We are working closely with all of our tomato partners to secure the right fruit as far as quality and spec and will keep you informed of any changes as needed. We thank you for your patience during these unforeseen events.

https://lnkd.in/eric6J94 Around five centuries of selective breeding has given us the tomato we know today. Farmers and growers selected certain plants to breed for their characteristics—like maturation speed, color, disease resistance, and so on—but in general, these growers were focused on what made the practice of tomato growing more profitable rather than end taste and flavor.
