Calling all Affiliates and Operators! 📣 The proposed ban on Affiliates in Finland has raised significant concerns. Whether it's a misinterpretation, oversight, or an unintended consequence of a hurried initial draft, Traffic Lab is taking the lead in shedding light on this issue for the Ministry of Interior. 🇫🇮 Affiliates play a crucial role in the iGaming industry. They advocate for freedom of choice and transparency for licensed casinos in Finland post-regulation. Disincentivizing affiliates from promoting licensed operators risks pushing consumers towards unlicensed platforms, which not only undermines affiliates' businesses but also contradicts the Ministry of Interior's goal of achieving 90% channelization. We are currently compiling facts, evidence, and legally sound arguments into a comprehensive report. This effort aims to steer the draft bill towards a balanced approach that supports the Ministry's channelization objectives effectively. With iGB approaching, we invite anyone interested in contributing or discussing this issue to reach out. My inbox is open for your opinions, suggestions, or to join our statement publicly. Let's work together to ensure that the iGaming industry in Finland remains fair, competitive, and compliant with regulatory goals. #iGaming #Affiliates #IAmDoingMyPart #GamblingNews
paging Antti Koivula if you don't know Peter you should say hello, he's fantastic
The so-called ban is due influencer marketing. B-list celebrities hyping up gambling on IG, somewhere in between posts about nail polishing and baking… people hate it. It will not be allowed. There is an explicit ban of offering quick loans at casinos. This was never a thing. Totally made up. But it was hot topic for many years. Laws reflect the society and will of citizens. It will be absolutely impossible to remove ”3rd party marketing” from the law. What will be possible is to convince operators that our sites are compliant enough to convince the regulator that this is not 3rd party marketing, but instead ”electronic media” which is allowed. Given affiliation is so important part of FI acquisition mix, operators should be willing to ultimately find out in court whether it’s electronic media or 3rd party marketing. If they are specifically against traditional affiliates (possible but unlikely), they will find a way to ban it. Current law is not the way.
Important work Peter Gunni... If Finland wishes to improve on the mistakes that other EU countries made (we can name 1 or 2) who created their regulations & framework incorrectly by writing rules or policies that sound good on paper but ultimately cause rampant black markets, bigger gambling addictions, and very little tax revenue ultimately coming into the country, they need to listen to people who understand each & every side of the business... If they do not acknowledge the realities of human nature, what players want, and where to do so safely, it will cause massive problems. - Good on you for trying to help.
Agreed and wishing you all the best with this. Glad your receiving so much support - as this should!
Affiliates are a neccessary part of the ecosystem. The players rely on affiliates. 🙏
This would be interesting to hear more about when you find out more Peter Gunni. This is of course not good news for the Finnish affiliate market, but we'd like to understand what changes are being suggested.
