How to cooperate with Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in authoritarian contexts? Some analyses from SWP with findings and suggestions probably true far beyond the case of Niger: „research reveals that especially in authoritarian contexts, the lines between CSOs and the state are often blurred. If Western policy makers wish to collaborate with CSOs, they need to have up-to-date knowledge about local #CSO landscapes, flexible funding instruments, and a clearly defined strategy that entails risk mitigation measures while embedding CSO support in a concerted political approach.“ https://lnkd.in/eWsjYprV

NIGER WORKING WITH CIVIL SOCIETY IN AUTHORITARIAN CONTEXT The recent wave of coups in the Sahel puts Western policy makers in a difficult situation: While they wish to maintain relations and vie for influence, they also want to avoid strengthening unconstitutional rule. Collaboration with civil society organizations (CSOs) who are supposedly closer to citizens, is currently discussed as a way out of the dilemma. However, research reveals that especially in authoritarian contexts, the lines between CSOs and the state are often blurred. This just out!! GITJR's newest publication entitled "Compendium on Political Regression & Transitional Justice Processes" looks into four typologies analyzing the impact of political regression on transitional justice processes across continents, focusing on the critical role that civil society plays in pushing forward the TJ agenda even during challenging circumstances. Case studies included: Sri Lanka, Syria, Iraq and Guinea. Thanks and appreciation to the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience and the Global Initiative for Justice, Truth & Reconciliation members for involving me in this interesting book project on an emerging issue in transitional justice!

Most countries that have experienced conflict have been through some form of peace or transition process. However, to prevent conflict recurring, peace and transition processes need greater capacity. A session on state-building in contexts of invisible and multi-level governance, led by International IDEA and The University of Edinburgh, at the SIPRI Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development 2024 will explore ways in which these fragmented forms of authority could help build new forms of incremental and bottom-up state-building. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dPsuEzzp

I gotta know! The #ICRC International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC was founded upon the principles of #neutrality, #impartiality, and #independence. All historical fact, please feel free to research at your leisure. What happens when these principle are cast away? Who delivers rebuke to the #ICRC for the crimes they commit? #Humanitarianism in its current devolved and detestable form is the Problem! The media, the #UN, the corrupted NGOs, etc. all feed the #Humanitarian problem. If you think you know what #Humanitarianism is, check out the article linked. The following is an article, well written, discussing the problems with #Humanitarianism: https://lnkd.in/gQEnaDEe

How can policy research at the government level be leveraged to strengthen peacebuilding efforts in the BARMM and in the Philippines? What role does evidence-based policy play in shaping both localized and national strategies for peace and conflict resolution?

🎤 I was honoured to present a session at a Gold Coast event, where I explained Arab-Israeli recognition and the evolving dynamics of regional powers in the Middle East. Drawing predominantly from my first thesis, which examined Arab-Israeli relationships, the session also delved into current developments involving Israel at the United Nations, International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court. It was a privilege to engage with this topic again and explain how these international bodies impact the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East. Looking forward to more opportunities to contribute to this critical conversation! #MiddleEastPolitics #ArabIsraeliRelations #InternationalRelations #UN #ICJ #ICC

We need to look beyond the international approaches and instruments of post conflict peace building and rule of law. We need a much more vernacular, creative, and plurastic approach to this challenge. Here's a piece on how sound and performance was brought into productive engagement with the highly prescribed, technocratic processes that dominate mainstream post-conflict interventions in the context of complex conflict of south Sudan. https://lnkd.in/gTJhF-7y We need to design and create our own process of truth and reconciliation to create দায় - দরদের বাংলাদেশ 🇧🇩
