Motion: Public utility laws should apply to Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, X, OpenAI and some other modern tech infrastructure giants. Arguments in favor of this motion: We already do this for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Tennessee Valley Authority, some telecoms companies. The tech institutions I mentioned above provide invaluable services. These are not quite natural, but naturalized monopolies. We recognize that a significant part of their value comes from their scale, and that private capital took part in their build-out. We want to encourage the development of companies like these. It'd be disastrous to break these institutions up in the name of fair competition. A more viable solution is to provide the public with some oversight capabilities through political and administrative channels. Arguments against the motion: /go nuts in the comment section/ P.S. Idk about this dozen being "dynamic" but yeah here's an infographic

Google loses (pending appeal ) a major antitrust suit. A federal judge sided with the Justice Department and against Google, ruling that the search giant "is a monopolist" and acted illegally in order to maintain its search engine dominance. If this ruling fails to get tossed out from an appeal process, it can lead to more competition in the search engine space, we might also see new players rising with AI and Quantum Computing to add firepower to searches. For a small monetary consideration I can show the easiest way to make a windfall profit from this development. Potential remedies include a structural breakup and ending the exclusive agreements Google makes with Apple and other partners. The latter could be devastating for Google's search business. A big win for new AI technology ventures and Quantum Computing.

I've been thinking a lot about Google lately after talking to some CEOs who run their businesses on Google Suite. The TDLR: Google / Gemini is going to take a huge portion of the enterprise AI market. I guess no surprise there, but in public / press sentiment (and even at times in stock price) Google has felt behind - it didn't have the shiny ChatGPT launch, the killer CEO like Microsoft, etc. But as my friend Adam reminded me this week, Google has the compute (literally 5+ nuclear power plants of energy worth), has some of the best talent on the planet in Google DeepMind, owns the full stack end-to-end (from the OS with Android, to the hardware), and controls the entry-point for search. If they are able to get their claws into the "internal" enterprise search with Gemini they will own search even more tightly than they do today. Which is why this summer's anti-trust verdict is worth keeping a close eye on. Not just for Google, but for how we approach building the next Google(s) #ai #Google #software https://lnkd.in/g3zuanAN

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗻 In recent months, the antitrust lawsuit against Google has captured the attention of regulators, tech giants, and consumers alike. A federal court’s decision to side with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and most states against Google has opened up a Pandora’s box of questions about the future of antitrust enforcement in the tech sector. The case has sparked debates about the relevance of century-old laws like the Sherman Act and the applicability of past antitrust rulings, such as the landmark Microsoft case, to today’s technology behemoths. As someone who has witnessed the evolution of the tech industry over the past two decades, I find it crucial to dissect the nuances of this case and explore its potential ramifications. Missouri has launched an investigation into Google regarding allegations of censoring conservative speech. This inquiry could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of free speech and tech regulation. As digital platforms increasingly become the primary venues for public discourse, concerns about bias and censorship have come to the forefront of political and social debates. The investigation seeks to understand whether Google is indeed suppressing certain viewpoints, which could have significant implications for how tech companies are regulated and held accountable. This case highlights the ongoing tension between tech giants' content moderation policies and the principles of free expression. What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you think tech companies should have more oversight, or is this a necessary step to maintain a safe online environment? As the major technology companies have reached new levels of scale and dominance, we have seen the rise of legal challenges to them on many levels. This week we saw one of the biggest challenges reach a new stage. A federal judge ruled that Google has acted as a monopolist and violated the Sherman Act. This received a lot of headlines, and some think it may lead to major changes. We had many readers ask us about this and we give our views in this issue of HX Daily here… https://lnkd.in/e2TMMz6k

Insightful post. AI is already a powerful tool. I believe us marketers should be studying how to use it, and all it's forms, as soon as possible. But only if we use it as a tool. Not a one-trick pony to solve all problems. - - - #ai #progress #BIRGing

Ah, yes, that guy from the quantification department strikes again! Just your everyday $20 decillion fine - definitely a realistic, well-thought-out figure. Maybe Google can start a GoFundMe?! An unprecedented fine, to say the least - $20 decillion far surpasses even the world’s total GDP by an astronomical amount. This ruling highlights the intensifying clash between tech platforms and regulatory bodies under strained international relations. While largely symbolic, it underscores the need for tech companies to navigate ever more complex geopolitical landscapes, particularly when upholding policies that intersect with sanctions and media regulations. It's interesting to see how Google will respond, especially considering the scale of enforcement challenges here. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gHsbhhWw
