https://lnkd.in/eSPpqH7d I found this to be an interesting article. Community para medicine can be an effective tool to get healthcare to vulnerable populations. Yes there are barriers, such as scope of practice, funding, and staffing. There are benefits though, such as lowering the potential of Emergency Room visits for sometimes routine procedures. Maybe it is time to look at a different dynamic. Instead of just a two paramedic unit, staff an ambulance with two paramedics and a Physician Assistant. Depending on the area being implemented, schedule visits with patients to have routine checks. This can be beneficial to patients that have difficulty making it to doctors appointments due to transportation issues, or for those that do not have family support to get them to the doctor. This can help ease the strain on calls to 911, overflowing Emergency Rooms, especially in bigger cities. Technology can allow use of electronic medical records, to update patients charts. Now the biggest problem is going to be multiple EMR's used by different organizations. What if community para medicine programs had access and training to the EMR's used by the organizations in their communities. Yes, it is a lot of training but it allows for better continuity of care. As medicine advances, changes need to be adapted to make healthcare available to all. If this type of program can be successful, think of the impact it can make on the bigger part of the picture. If we can reduce the number of Emergency Room visits, and potentially hospital admissions, what relief would come for those that work in hospitals. This may be looked at as transferring the burden of burn out to a different sector, but with proper planning and implementation could it be feasible? #CommunityMedicine #Paramedicine #CommunityHealth #PublicHealth

As clinicians, we all know that time with patients is our most valuable asset. As a GP with specialist interest in ENT in both the NHS and my private clinic, I have the unique opportunity to observe the profound impact that time can have on patient care. At the Glasgow Ear Clinic, I can offer 30-minute appointments, seeing a maximum of seven patients over 3.5 hours. Having longer appointments allows me to delve deeper into each patient's concerns, provide thorough examinations, and offer detailed clinical advice. The true value in private practice lies in helping patients without the pressure of a ticking clock. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy my NHS roles. They are rewarding and impactful. But working in both environments provides an increased level of job satisfaction. #healthcare #patientcare #ENT #privateclinic #NHS #timematters #resilience

One of the biggest challenges for patients in General Practice is simply booking an appointment. Many are asked to call at 8am sharp ⏰, only to spend up to an hour waiting to secure a slot. It’s frustrating, and the traditional first-come, first-serve system has significant limitations. Patients who manage to book often could have been helped by another clinician—like a nurse or pharmacist. Meanwhile, those who genuinely need to see a doctor sometimes miss out because all the slots are gone. It’s a system that doesn’t always work for patients or practices. To tackle this, I was proud to be part of the team at my practice that developed and implemented a total triage system ✅ This approach prioritises appointments based on clinical need, ensuring patients receive the right care from the right professional at the right time. Whether it’s a GP, nurse, or another clinician, the focus is on what’s best for the patient. Change like this can feel unsettling 😬, but it’s often the first step toward better outcomes for everyone. That’s why I created this video to highlight some of the advantages in a relatable way! What are your thoughts on total triage? 🤔Have you seen it work in your practice? #GeneralPractice #GPappointments #TotalTriage #PrimaryCare #HealthcareAccess #PatientCare #NHS Dr Murray Ellender Dr. Vishaal Virani, MBBS Shiv Gaglani Esh Tatla Dr Veena Babu Erwin Kwun Dr. James Somauroo Keith Grimes Dr. Arup Paul Dr Avi Mehra Suman Saha Dr Sumi Baruah Katherine Leung

"Improving diagnosis for patient safety" is the focus for #WorldPatientSafetyDay2024. 🩺 Diagnosis is an important part of the healthcare process as it determines care and treatment, impacting well-being and health outcomes for patients. It is crucial there are effective systems in place to ensure health issues are correctly identified. If you've noticed a shift in your health, book an appointment with your primary care provider. They work with a team of healthcare professionals such as registered nurses, dietitians, and exercise specialists to ensure that you receive the care you need. Together, let's ensure we live out the slogan for this year's World Patient Safety Day: "Get it right, make it safe!" #Diagnosis #ABHealth

Patients just don't understand... As a nurse care manager, and patient I've witnessed firsthand the disconnect between patients and the medical advice they receive. It's disheartening to see patients leave their doctor's office with little understanding of their health conditions or the instructions given. This gap in communication and understanding is particularly prevalent in minority communities, where it exacerbates existing disparities in healthcare outcomes. It pains me, both personally and professionally, to see how these gaps contribute to preventable health conditions and, ultimately, tragic outcomes. As healthcare providers, we must ensure that our patients truly comprehend their health, the importance of preventive measures, and how to navigate the healthcare system effectively. Listening to stories from my patients is a reminder of the importance of advocating for ourselves and our loved ones within the healthcare system. It's a call to action for both healthcare providers and patients to prioritize health literacy, ask the right questions, and insist on comprehensive care. May we learn to take the time and meet people where they are so they can make the right decisions about their health care. #nursesoflinkedin #caremanagement #valuebasedcare
