Some of the common post operative complications are: 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: Major Postoperative Bleeding (mPOB) is the most common complication after bariatric surgery. It can range from self-limiting to life-threatening situations. 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬: Nutritional deficiencies are a crucial consideration after bariatric surgery. Bariatric procedures can affect Vitamin B12 absorption. 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬: This complication occurs when there is a leak at the surgical connection site (anastomosis). It usually happens within the first few days after surgery and rarely after 2 weeks. 𝐔𝐥𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬: Ulcers may develop in the stomach or small intestine after bariatric surgery. These can cause pain, bleeding, and other issues. Gallstone Formation: Rapid weight loss after bariatric surgery can increase the risk of gallstone formation. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞: Although rare, blood clots (thrombi) can form in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or travel to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) after surgery. Hence, reinforcement of staple line gets extremely crucial to avoid these complications. Bariatric surgery is a medical procedure that helps individuals with obesity achieve significant weight loss and improve related health conditions. The surgery involves modifying the stomach and intestines to limit food intake and nutrient absorption. Common types of bariatric surgery include gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and adjustable gastric banding. By reducing excess weight, bariatric surgery can improve conditions like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. It's a life-changing solution for those who have struggled with obesity and related health issues. Struggling with obesity and its impact on your health and well-being? Laparoscopic bariatric surgery might be the answer you've been looking for. Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is a type of weight loss surgery performed using a minimally invasive technique called laparoscopy. This surgery is intended for individuals who are severely obese and haven't been able to achieve sustained weight loss through diet and exercise alone. There are two main types of laparoscopic bariatric surgery: * Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG): In this procedure, about 80% of the stomach is removed, leaving a banana-shaped sleeve. This restricts the amount of food you can eat and reduces the production of hunger hormones. * Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass (LGB): This surgery creates a small pouch from the upper portion of the stomach. The small intestine is then reconnected to the pouch, bypassing the rest of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. This reduces food intake and limits nutrient absorption. Benefits of Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery: * Minimally invasive, leading to faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. * Significant and sustained weight loss. * Improvement in obesity-related health conditions like type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. Who is a Candidate? Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is typically considered for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more, or those with a BMI of 35 or more who have serious weight-related health problems. ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT GETTING BREAST IMPLANTS? Here is a bit of additional knowledge to help you in your decision making process! • RUPTURES & LEAKS - Breast implants can rupture or leak, leading to complications and the need for additional surgeries. Silicone implants may leak into the surrounding tissues, causing inflammation and potential health issues. • CAPSULAR CONTRACTURE- This is a common complication where scar tissue forms around the implant, causing the breast to feel hard and painful. It may require corrective surgery to alleviate the discomfort. IMPLANT RELATED ILLNESSES- Some individuals may develop symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and cognitive issues, commonly referred to as Breast Implant Illness (BII). While the exact cause is unknown, many women have reported improvement after implant removal. • ANESTHESIA RISKS - Like any surgery, breast augmentation carries risks related to anesthesia, including allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and adverse drug interactions. • LONG TERM MAINTENANCE- Breast implants are not meant to last a lifetime. They may require replacement or removal due to complications or changes in personal preference over time. It’s crucial to thoroughly research and consult with medical professionals before deciding on breast augmentation. YOUR HEALTH & WELL-BEING SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE TOP PRIORITY! 🏥 Understanding Kidney Stones and How There Removed 🏥 Kidney stones, also known as renal calculi, are hard deposits that form in the kidneys when substances in the urine become highly concentrated. These substances can include calcium, oxalate, and uric acid. When the concentration of these substances in the urine reaches a certain level, they can crystallize and stick together, forming solid masses. These stones can remain in the kidneys or travel through the urinary tract, causing pain and other symptoms as they move. Doctors use various methods to remove kidney stones depending on their size and location 🔽 🏞 Passing naturally: Small kidney stones may pass out of the body naturally with increased fluid intake and pain management. 💊 Medication: Doctors may prescribe medications to help relax the muscles in the ureter, making it easier for the stone to pass. 🌊 Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL): This non-invasive procedure uses shock waves to break up larger stones into smaller pieces that can be passed more easily through the urinary tract. 🔬 Ureteroscopy: A thin, flexible scope is inserted through the urethra and bladder into the ureter to locate and remove the stone or break it up using a laser. ✂ Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL): This procedure is used for large or complex stones. A small incision is made in the back, and a nephroscope is inserted directly into the kidney to remove the stone. 👩⚕️ Surgery: In rare cases where other methods are not feasible or effective, surgical techniques such as open surgery or laparoscopic surgery may be used to remove the stone. Total Wellness and Bariatrics is excited to offer the Mini Gastric Bypass! What Is The Mini Gastric Bypass? The MGB was developed with the aim of simplifying the traditional Gastric Bypass surgery and reducing the risk of complications. Like the Gastric Bypass, this procedure involves creating a small stomach pouch using a laparoscopic stapler. However, the Mini Gastric Bypass only involves one connection with the small intestine, reducing the chance of complications compared to the Gastric Bypass which has two connections. This surgery restricts food intake and impairs nutrient absorption, resulting in weight loss comparable to gastric bypass. During an MGB, the surgeon will measure out a meter and a half of the small intestine and connect it to the newly created pouch, which is less demanding and quicker than the full gastric bypass that involves the removal of a meter and a half of the small intestine. The MGB promotes significant weight loss, comparable to the gastric bypass in both the short and long term, and is less aggressive than the full gastric bypass. Benefits are is it is: Less Invasive Shorter Recovery Period Less Expensive Simpler Procedure and Technique Reduces symptoms of GERD More effective than sleeve gastrectomy at controlling Type 2 diabetes #minigastricbypass #TotalWellnessAndBariatrics #minimallyinvasivebariatricsurgery
