When we allow worry to linger longer than its initial purpose and we become hyper-vigilant, we squander valuable time and energy on a futile behavior. Extended worrying often morphs into a repetitive narrative that loops incessantly in our minds, plunging us into a perpetual state of distress that obstructs our ability to find solutions. Next time worry strikes, capture it in writing the moment it surfaces and inquire, "What message is this worry conveying? What potential danger does it signal?" Let it rest for a day. If it resurfaces, gently redirect your attention to your surroundings (known as the anchoring technique) to re-center yourself in the present moment. Consider physically shaking off the worry by engaging in 3-5 minutes of vigorous body movement. Revisit your journal the following day and jot down three effective and practical solutions to address the worry. #worryfree #effectivecoaching #anxietyawareness

This month is a twist on Spring Cleaning! We're kicking things off with cleaning out the mental clutter that's caused by confusing Urgent and Important. Q4 and Q1 are intense months, which are often laser focused on finishing or kicking off our goals. Q2 is a great opportunity to pump the brakes and assess whether we're truly focusing on important actions that will systemically improve our business. I offer a couple of suggestions on how to do this. Check it out! #stephanierising #therisingeffect #smallbusiness #businesscoaching https://lnkd.in/gbTN4-Ef

Anything that offers an alternative strategy or helps in understanding and dealing with stress can only be positive.

Ever feel like you're just going through the motions in life...? 🥶 Then you might be stuck in something called 'functional freeze' mode 🙅♀️ You might have noticed this term popping up on TikTok lately - I wrote about it in my latest article for Stylist Magazine. Here's what I found out: 🧊 To the naked eye, someone in functional freeze mode might appear to be doing fine, but internally they’re stuck. 🧊 They may be able to tick off necessary tasks like work and life admin, for example, but struggle to do the basics of self-care once the clock hits 5pm. 🧊 Like flight or fight, freeze mode is an evolutionary ‘survival of the fittest’ instinct that the brain and body adopts to protect itself when it perceives danger. 🧊 Because our nervous system hasn’t evolved to keep up with the stressful pace of modern life, our brains can interpret this flood of information as a threat – shutting down as a protective measure. 🧊 And because we’re living in an era obsessed with hyper-productivity, we can often misinterpret functional freeze mode as laziness or boredom, failing to recognise it as a valid response to stress or trauma. I chatted to Somia co-founder Jennifer Mann about how bringing the nervous system back into alignment with somatic practises can help us to move out of a freeze state.
