There’s a lot to see in Knoxville, and especially on the University of Tennessee campus: the Sunsphere, the Hill, Circle Park, the Smokey statues - and the graffiti. It’s hard to imagine a city without it, let alone a college campus. Central to going to college is the concept of legacy: alum, legacy admissions, fraternities and sororities, etc. Graffiti is no different. Through it, one can see years in the past, sometimes decades, and nowhere is that more true than in Knoxville. Through the placement of the art, the time, and the direction it faces, one can glean oodles of information about the who, what, when, where, and why of a specific piece. The why, of course, is the all-important question at hand. Why did they place this piece here? Artists like Limer BW and Fusion enjoy artistic freedom in their work, making their city feel more at home via their art. Others, like UT’s Progressive Student Alliance and Turning Point USA, use it to enact political messaging, while others like WOZO Radio use graffiti to advertise their station. This all requires the graffiti to not be cleaned up - something few are keen to let happen, bar the actual street artists. One custodian spoke about her more than 30 years working in UT’s residence halls and her take on student street art, and her perspective was shocking- you can see the interview here on YouTube. https://lnkd.in/e4YFvyav

📕 New Research Update: Our latest study on graffiti writers’ location choices is now published in Crime & Delinquency! 🔍 Key findings: Graffiti writers strategically select locations with high foot traffic, focusing on areas with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs that attract large crowds. Using discrete choice models and street network analysis, our research reveals how graffiti writers prioritize exposure, consistent with the rational choice perspective and spot theory. 🤝 Special thanks to Wim Bernasco and Christophe Vandeviver for their valuable collaboration and insights. 📌 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ecrGzGmZ. #research #crimelocationchoice #graffiti

Had a great evening at the Clay community event in NYC. I was so reminded of the various Tableau community events (albeit an early stage Tableau). Super passionate users, Clay creators and employees. Like Tableau in the early days lots of young people making their name and being successful entrepreneurs. Eric who presented would be considered a ‘Zen master’ (Tableau speak). It went long and no one wanted to leave. All that was missing was hands on ‘Doctor sessions’. (If you don’t know what this is ask someone who knows Tableau). It’s that kind of a product. Excited to say I was at the first one. I can see a Clay conference, Clay User Group (CUG does not have the same sound as TUG) meetings, Clay Days at customers etc. in the future. If you are not using Clay for your outbound you are missing out. An SDR with Clay will be as effective as 5 SDRs without Clay. Yes there are other products that can probably do what Clay does, but as I saw at Tableau - the community can not be replicated. Clay Andreas Wernicke 🦾Eric Nowoslawski

"The People's House: A White House Experience" is opening in Washington, DC this week. It's a 33,000 sq ft, three-floor interactive tech-powered experience designed to evolve over time alongside each presidency. This is interesting, and hopefully will help the attraction stay current vs. the stale animatronic Hall of Presidents experience from the past. Located less than a block from the actual White House, this is a collaboration between The White House Historical Association, Gensler, Ralph Applebaum Associates, and Cortina Productions. I understand the security precautions of building a separate attraction, and the scalability to make a visit more accessible to the greater public, but it's hard to think of another iconic building that could do the same. Imagine if a visit to the Empire State Building took place at a smaller replica down the block with only video views of the Manhattan skyline? It's unclear if one of the technology powered interactive experiences included a mini Zamboni to usher out guests who believe they have won the election and refuse to leave the building. I will definitely check this out the next time I'm in Washington, DC. It's great to see a modern experience applied to an educational and inspirational political environment. #ImmersiveExperience #InteractiveExhibits #ExperienceDesign #WashingtonDC #TechInMuseums #EducationalExperiences #PoliticalHistory #VisitorAttractions #CulturalHeritage #Gensler #RalphAppelbaumAssociates #CortinaProductions #WhiteHouse #AmericanHistory #ModernMuseums #ExhibitionDesign #DigitalInnovation #PresidentialHistory #HistoricPreservation #MuseumsAndTechnology #VisitorExperience #ExperientialDesign #InnovationInMuseums #DCAttractions #CulturalExperience #StorytellingThroughTech #MuseumTech #CivicEngagement #TechInEducation #ExperienceEconomy #CulturalInnovation #WXO #WorldExperienceOrganization "Home - The People's House"
