#4 of 4 on the future of Welsh Rugby - The most important. Bring Passion Back to Grassroots Rugby Welsh rugby’s soul lies in its grassroots. Every village, school, and community club is a seedbed for future talent and fan engagement. Yet, for years, grassroots rugby has been neglected in favour of top-down initiatives that fail to resonate. I would redirect significant funding and attention to grassroots rugby, ensuring clubs have the resources to thrive. This means subsidizing coaching, improving facilities, and fostering inclusivity—not as a politically correct tick-box exercise but as a genuine commitment to growing the game. The WRU must inspire the next generation by investing in youth programs that are visible, accessible, and aspirational. Rugby in Wales should be a national movement, not a corporate monolith. In addition, it is a national disgrace that, even now, there are no Welsh coaches being considered to replace Gatland. Surely this is the most glaring failure of Welsh Rugby. They have spent nothing on bringing through Welsh coaches, mostly in favour of NZ solutions. Look at Scotland and what Gregor Townsend has achieved and where they sit in comparison to Wales, oh and they only have 2 pro teams. But hang on Welsh parochialism would insist on more not fewer teams. Therein lies the difference.

Recently I have taken the time to reflect on a very important question. Q: What do you do when you have accomplished all of your goals? A: Set new ones! Your goals in life and Business can adapt and grow the same as you. I am someone who can say I am blessed to have been able to accomplish all of the task I have set out to accomplish. Not because I am better than anyone else or because I have had better opportunities. The Key to my success is simple….. If The Creator set it in front of me, I have already committed to doing the work necessary to complete it. No matter the task, the goal, the work, the barrier, or the project I have already made my mind up that NOTHING CAN or WILL stop me from what The Creator has Requested.

A few days ago, the FIVB successfully launched the FIVB Volleyball Foundation. This is an important milestone for volleyball, as our sport, with around 900 million fans worldwide, can now ensure that volleyball contributes to the betterment of society as a whole. Sport has always been an integral part of human civilization, reflecting and shaping cultural values, fostering unity, and providing a platform for social interaction and physical well-being. This is certainly worth watching if you are interested in finding ways to improve your academy, grassroots club, and especially your players. Scottish football evidently lacks creative players and players who are comfortable with the ball. I can only speak from personal experience, but watching Scottish Premier League matches where a team has a 52% pass completion rate and believes they played well demonstrates that our game has not progressed like other countries. Clubs are filled with mediocre foreign imports, but more concerningly, they are considered superior to those coming through academies. I believe there is an air of arrogance in Scottish football, despite the fact that there is not much to be arrogant about. We have failed to qualify for a World Cup since 1998, and considering the quality of the under-19, under-17, and under-16 teams, we could easily go another 25 years if we do not change our approach to the game. It all begins with the foundations. What we do at the grassroots level and in academies at the pre-foundation and foundation levels has an impact on everything above it. https://lnkd.in/ef2P3hMw
