Today the EMA rejects #Biogen/#Eisai application for the commercialization of Lecanemab for #Alzheimer's disease in Europe because they argue that the risks overweight the potential benefits. Right or wrong, this decision highlights the desperate need for #precisionmedicine in this field. Acknowledging the biological heterogeneity in AD is the key to unlock patient stratification and reach significant benefits with minimal risk.

Endometriosis Awareness Month NIH released a media brief today noting new future studies of a medication previously prescribed for arthritis pain. Fenoprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), was selected from a "computer algorithm to evaluate nearly 1,300 existing compounds..."  for further study in a rodent model of endometriosis. Well, it's a case of starting somewhere, even if only to help symptom management. The brief includes acknowledgement that "many existing treatments have challenging side effects, do not treat the source of the disease and leave a chance for recurrence. To help address these issues, NICHD recently launched the Advancing Cures and Therapies and ending ENDOmetriosis diagnostic delays (ACT ENDO) initiative." Patients treated with Gazyva plus standard therapy showed a higher complete renal response (CRR) at 76 weeks compared to standard therapy alone. Safety was consistent with Gazyva's profile, with no new safety signals. Dr. Levi Garraway Levi Garraway noted that Gazyva’s results could significantly impact long-term kidney function and delay end-stage kidney disease, while Dr. Brad H. Rovin emphasized Gazyva as a compelling new option for lupus management. The study met its primary endpoint, and key secondary endpoints showed meaningful benefits, indicating better disease control. Would providing better control over this hyperactivated leukocyte-mediated autoimmunity, slow its progression and also the progression of many other non-pulmonary diseases in which NET formation and NET induction by the plasma are known to be elevated above normal in the blood circulation? Such as Long Covid PASC. If NETotic neutrophils and other leukocytes that release their chromatin extracellularly are elevated in the blood, perhaps this impairs their macrophage-mediated phagocytic clearance from both the circulating blood and the tissues in which they are elevated. "Aberrant and massive NETs formation has been reported in several pulmonary diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" regardless of the suspected triggering event being non-infectious, infectious or exacerbated by both.
