📢 This month's featured best practice form our Inclusion Scorecard for Population Health: [3.3.4] Trustees Are Expected to Attend Conferences and/or Seminars Related to Serving Diverse Populations: Board governance includes the training and development of trustees to understand unique issues that must be addressed in serving diverse members of the community. Here are the questions to ask to assess the level of adoption for this best practice: 💡 What expectations are outlined for Board members to understand or learn about different patient populations the health system serves?  💡 How do the Trustees self-assess knowledge of unique patient needs or the diversity of communities served?  💡 What are the workshops, seminars, or webinars that the Board attends annually on culturally effective care and health outreach practices?   💡 How are the cross-cultural beliefs on wellbeing discussed by the Board? 💡 Does the board set aside time during its annual strategic planning process to specifically apply new insights on diverse health needs of the communities served? Here are the core domains: 1. Identifying the Population Define the specific groups within the community that you'll be focusing on. 2. Population Health Assessment Assess the overall health status and outcomes of your community. 3. Population Health Needs Assessment Evaluate the specific health needs and challenges of the identified populations. 4. Population Segmentation Divide the population into segments based on health needs and risks to tailor interventions effectively. 5. Prioritization of Interventions Determine which health interventions will have the greatest impact and prioritize them. 6. Implementation of Interventions Put the prioritized health interventions into action to address the identified needs. 7. We are thrilled to unveil our latest work at THEnet: Training for Health Equity Network done through the USAID funded Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS). This publication showcases the critical role of integrating a #socialdeterminantsofhealth perspective into health system strengthening. Why does it matter? Without tackling the root causes behind #healthinequities — health systems can't achieve fair outcomes. Moreover, #structuraldiscrimination — systematic disadvantages based on age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, etc.—further skews the #equity and #quality of care. Addressing SDOH is also critical if we want to develop equitable climate-resilient health systems Access and affordability aren't enough if care doesn't meet the actual needs and challenges people face. Ignoring a patient's unique circumstances can lead to uneven care and discrimination. Through #LHSS, we've also developed a brief on key SDOH-related competencies for care providers.
