Happy to contribute this column on AI for SLRs and ES at ISPOR Europe 2024 and hope you'll give it a read. The short story is I don't really think this years program hit the right balance in terms of what was highlighted in podiums/panels, but there's lots of exciting high quality research in the space that I hope gets lifted from the poster section at ISPOR Annual 2025. I'll be especially excited to see some more discussion between the people that are claiming to have solved some complex processes and the people who are finding solutions are breaking down once they get away from toy models. Is it a skill issue, or is AI for HEOR overhyped?

Assoc Prof Nan Liu and Dr Ning Yilin from the Centre for Quantitative Medicine is leading a multidisciplinary team of international experts to develop CARE-AI, a novel tool to help guide the responsible clinical implementation of AI-based prediction models. Published in Nature Medicine, CARE-AI consolidates existing guidance, identifies gaps, and offers recommendations to ensure the use of AI prediction models in healthcare is fair, trustworthy, and ethical. In addition to disease diagnosis and prognosis, which have been the primary focus of existing recommendations, CARE-AI will also address less-discussed yet equally important applications, such as AI tools for drug discovery and development. 🎉 Congratulations to Associate Professor Nan Liu, Director of Duke-NUS AI + Medical Sciences Initiative (DAISI), on receiving the High Impact Paper Award 2023 for his and his team's work on Large Language Models (LLM) in Healthcare!
