Ever been glad to own a hoodie? Or steal one from a boyfriend? (That is actual theft, by the way, ladies!) Well, did you know you've got one particular sportswear brand to thank for that? (See end of post for explanation👇🏼📌) Possibly my favourite sportswear brand ever (I grew up watching American 80's movies 📼, the brand was hard to come by in Ireland 🇮🇪, and everything just looked so cool), Champion is making waves this summer with major strategic moves that cement its legacy and pave the way for future growth. 🫱🏻🫲🏽 The brand is set to join the portfolio of Authentic Brands Group, enabling it to expand its global footprint and leverage ABG’s brand-building expertise. 🛍️ It launched an exclusive concession at Selfridges London a couple of weeks ago, showcasing its most elevated products. 🏈🏀🌭🍻 And, in a slick nod to its sports heritage, Champion is transforming Harry Gordon’s Bar & Kitchen (also in Selfridges) into a sports-themed bar for two months. This takeover will immerse customers in a nostalgic journey through sports history, perfectly timed with 2024's stacked summer of sport. I’d love to see them make a move into elite level European football kit supply in the coming years. And the noise surrounding Nike at present isn’t exactly ideal… Imagine Paris Saint-Germain x Champion…⚽️🏆 #Champion #AuthenticBrandsGroup #Selfridges #Sportswear #Fashion #Retail #BrandInnovation #Football 📌 Champion produced the first hooded sweatshirt in 1934 for the University of Michigan. It was known as a “sideline” garment and was designed for keeping warm between active periods.

New Balance aim to reach $10 billion in global sales. With all this talk of re-inventing themselves from “dad shoes” & other copycatted copy across various sources on the web, 10 years ago New Balance weren’t considered boring or not on trend. The thing is, here in the UK, they were actually really popular, but this all came slightly before the hyped up resale stuff came about with YEEZY with adidas which completely changed the sneaker world overnight. New Balance were the trainer brand to have back in 2014 with some pretty cool collabs and the revival of classic silhouettes like the 1500 and the 574, they just weren’t at the globally recognised level there at today. In the last 10 years the sneaker market alone has grown globally to around $80 billion and expected to reach $100 billion in the next few years. New Balance now plan to reach £10 billion in global sales over the next few years also. The question is how will they do it? https://lnkd.in/eCHqxCVU

In today’s fashion landscape, sportswear has transcended beyond the gym, stepping into the luxury market with boldness and style. Brands like Adidas and Nike are not just catering to athletes; they're curating collections that seamlessly blend performance with high fashion. 🏅 🏃🏼♀️ The integration of Adidas' classic aesthetics with Stanley’s sleek designs, alongside Nike’s bold foray into luxury athleisure, demonstrates this evolution. This trend is further propelled by celebrity street style—where icons like Hailey Bieber effortlessly mix luxury labels with casual sportswear, proving that athleisure is not just a trend, but a staple in modern wardrobes. Adding to this shift is the rising popularity of Padel, a sport that's quickly entering the luxury sports market. With luxury brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton incorporating Padel accessories and equipment into their collections, the sport is becoming synonymous with an exclusive, refined lifestyle. This blend of high-end fashion with a niche sport is setting new trends, further blurring the lines between activewear and luxury fashion. #Athleisure #LuxuryFashion #Sportswear #StreetStyle #Padel #FashionTrends #CreativeMarketing #BrandStrategy #Adidas #Nike #LuxuryLifestyle #HaileyBieber #Chanel

👟 My Take On Adidas Collabs, As Featured In Jing Daily Thanks to Bethanie Ryder for asking me about the most recent Adidas collabs at fashion week: “Working with luxury brands, and not the most mainstream ones, adds a veneer of exquisite appeal to Adidas that should help the brand win a few cool points,” Anthony McGuire, co-founder and CEO of PWR House, a next-gen advisory firm specializing in sports, fashion, music, and culture tells Jing Daily. “Customers usually don't buy sneakers from Nike and Adidas because of their footwear technology, but because of their cultural relevance.” As competitors ride the collab wave, Adidas stands apart, says PWR House’s McGuire. “I'm not sure Adidas is leaning into high fashion brands so much as high fashion brands are leaning into Adidas,” McGuire says. “Collaborations are the battleground for sneaker brands, and Adidas’ strategy seems focused on positioning itself as a high-quality, aspirational yet slightly attainable product." Very excited to see Adidas continue to pursue their collaboration strategy. And stay tuned for more updates from PWR House as we continue to work with both brands and creators in authentically connecting with culture. How a Family Rivalry Gave the World adidas and PUMA Group Some of the biggest global brands have origins rooted in fascinating stories, but the tale of adidas and PUMA Group stands out. It’s a story of innovation, competition, and how a family rivalry gave rise to two of the most iconic sportswear brands in the world. It all began in 1924 in a small town in Germany called Herzogenaurach. Brothers Adi Dassler and Rudolf Dassler started their own shoe company, working tirelessly to create high-quality footwear. Their big break came during the 1936 Olympics, when an athlete wearing their shoes won 4 gold medals. The success put their business on the map, and soon their factory was booming. However, as the company grew, so did tensions between the two brothers. Differences in vision and personal disputes led to a split in 1948. Adi Dassler founded adidas (a combination of his first and last name), while Rudolf Dassler went on to create PUMA Group Adidas became known for its iconic three stripes logo, symbolizing global reach and premium quality. Over the years, adidas positioned itself as a lifestyle and sportswear leader, creating products for athletes and fashion enthusiasts alike. On the other hand, PUMA Group built its brand around speed and performance, with its puma cat logo representing agility and energy. PUMA Group catered to a slightly different audience, focusing on performance-driven sportswear and accessories. Today, the rivalry between these two brands is legendary, with both dominating the global sportswear market in their unique ways. From the Olympic track to street fashion, adidas and PUMA Group have left an indelible mark on the world. The story of adidas and PUMA Group is a powerful reminder of how competition, even within families, can fuel innovation and lead to greatness. What’s your take on this fascinating tale of two brands? 🏆 👟 The Tale of Two Brothers: How PUMA Group and adidas Rose from Rivalry In the world of sportswear, few stories are as legendary as the fierce rivalry between two iconic brands—Puma and Adidas. But did you know this rivalry began with a brotherly feud? The Beginning: One Family, One Dream 🏡 It all started in the quiet town of Herzogenaurach, Germany. The Dassler brothers, Adolf ("Adi") and Rudolf, co-founded a shoe company in their mother's laundry room in the 1920s. The Dassler shoes gained fame when athletes wearing them won gold at the 1936 Olympics. The Split: From Family Ties to Business Rivals 💔 However, during World War II, tensions escalated, leading to a bitter fallout between the brothers. The exact reasons remain a mystery, with tales of misunderstandings and personal grievances. In 1948, the brothers parted ways, splitting the company into two separate entities. Adi went on to establish Adidas (a combination of his nickname "Adi" and the first three letters of "Dassler"). Rudolf formed Puma, originally named "Ruda," which later evolved to reflect the agility and speed of the big cat. The Legacy: A Global Phenomenon 🌍 Both brands have since grown into global giants, each carving out a unique identity. Adidas is known for its innovative designs and sponsorships, from iconic athletes like Jesse Owens to modern stars like Lionel Messi. Puma, with its stylish and performance-oriented approach, has collaborated with pop culture icons like Rihanna and Jay-Z. A Town Divided 🏘️ Interestingly, Herzogenaurach became known as "the town of bent necks," as locals would check each other's footwear before deciding where their loyalties lay. Even today, the rivalry is palpable, with each brand's headquarters located on opposite sides of the Aurach River. The Enduring Rivalry 🔄 Though the Dassler brothers are no longer with us, their legacy continues. The fierce competition between Puma and Adidas has driven innovation and inspired countless athletes and fashion enthusiasts worldwide. It’s a story of ambition, rivalry, and the enduring pursuit of excellence. -Aarthy Ramesh #Puma #Adidas #Sportswear #BrandRivalry #BusinessHistory #Entrepreneurship #Legacy #Innovation #FashionIndustry #Branding #Marketing #SuccessStory #MBA #SSN #SSNSOM

"JD Sports Fashion has proposed to buy American athletic fashion retailer Hibbett Inc for about $1.08 billion, the companies said on Tuesday, as Britain's biggest sportswear retailer looks to expand across the southeastern U.S. The deal comes as shares in athletic clothing retailers come under pressure globally after weak outlooks from sports apparel makers such as Nike and Puma. Last month JD's U.S. rival Foot Locker also warned on 2024 profits, though Adidas last week hiked its 2024 forecast on strong demand for the German sportswear giant's sneakers. JD Sports, which sells Nike, adidas, HOKA and other sports brands, said last month it expects the Euro soccer championships, Paris Olympics and new styles of trainers and track suits would spark life into the lacklustre market." #JDSports #hibbett #retail #finance #mergersandacquisitions #financialservices #corporatefinance #equipmentfinance #equipmentleasing https://lnkd.in/e2ZGCKrH
