🌱 Businesses today face a complex landscape where simply making a profit isn't enough—societal impact matters just as much. 🚀🌍 In the enlightening article "The Ecosystem of Shared Value" in Harvard Business Review, Michael E. Porter and Mark R. Kramer challenge traditional notions of corporate philanthropy and sustainability, proposing a powerful concept: creating shared value.🤝 🔍 They argue that businesses must go beyond charity and look at the root causes of social and environmental issues that impact their operations. The goal? To devise strategies that benefit both their bottom line and community wellness. Take Walmart, for instance. They've made strides in reducing food waste and enhancing access to nutritious food, showing that a business's operational changes can have large-scale positive outcomes.🍏 Similarly, GE’s initiatives on energy efficiency and water conservation not only help save on costs but also conserve vital resources for our planet.💧⚡ 🛠️ But here’s the kicker—creating shared value isn't about quick fixes or PR stunts. It requires a deep understanding of the intersecting worlds of business and society and sustained efforts involving collaboration with nonprofits, governments, and other stakeholders. 💥 Shared value isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have in today's business environment. It opens up new markets, drives innovation, and builds a business's reputation. 🚀 Have you witnessed or participated in initiatives where businesses successfully addressed societal challenges while boosting their own sustainability? Let’s highlight how doing good can also mean doing well! #BusinessInnovation #Sustainability #CorporateResponsibility #EnvironmentalImpact #SocialImpact https://lnkd.in/gaZN_3Hd

Conor McGale, Evaluation and Impact Manager at the Social Value Engine, has written an informative article for NICVA (Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action) on how social value can benefit voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations. The article defines social value, explains how it can help VCSE organisations maximise their impact, and provides practical steps for starting. Key points include: - Social value helps identify what works in your projects/organisation and why - It enables you to track the progress of your beneficiaries/stakeholders - It provides a holistic view considering economic, social & environmental impacts - It helps direct resources to projects that most benefit society - It raises your profile by demonstrating impact to all audiences - It strengthens funding applications, especially for funders following the Green Book approach His article outlines a 5-step process to get started: 1. Decide if you're forecasting or evaluating 2. Establish scope & identify key stakeholders 3. Map outcomes via a Theory of Change 4. Gather meaningful data 5. Use storytelling to bring the data to life Read the full article for more details: https://lnkd.in/eUjtzJAF #SocialValue #SocialImpact #VCSEImpact #SocialValueEngine

🌟 Reflecting on my journey as an Impact Sector Consultant 🌟 In the past 2 years, my experience in the social impact sector has been nothing short of transformative. Beyond honing technical skills, it's been a journey of profound personal and professional growth. Each day brings a new lesson in humility. Working closely with communities at the grassroots level opens ones eyes to the myriad challenges they face. Every project is a reminder of the resilience and strength within these communities. Conducting Impact Assessments has been a privilege, offering firsthand insights into the lives of those we aim to serve. Interacting with community members has not only deepened my understanding but also fueled my passion for creating meaningful change. Delving into due diligence and Social Return on Investment (SROI) studies has provided invaluable perspective on the inner workings of NGOs. It's a holistic view that goes beyond numbers, highlighting the true impact of our efforts. The creation of knowledge reports and articles help in sharing insights and best practices which contributes not only to the collective knowledge but also sparks conversations and drives innovation in the sector. As I look back on this journey, I'm grateful for the opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference. Here's to many more impactful moments ahead! 🌱💫 #SocialImpact #CommunityEngagement #MakingADifference #GrassrootsEmpowerment
