🟡 Do you have a PLAN? 🔵 I don’t even have a PLA 🔴
CleanManager has attended some events in the last couple of years, where I have been in charge of everything. From contact to venue, transportation, designing the stand, sending out invitations, building the stand, taking it down again, booking hotel, plane - the list goes on. Or should I say lists...
I’m by nature thorough and structured, so I planned and executed these events like a pro (I’m generally not a fan of “fake it till you make it” but in this case, it worked out quite well if I may say so). Or put it into better words than I can: "You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great".
Still, there’s room for improvement. So my boss and I decided that I should work on creating a template for all activities related to exhibiting at a trade show - a plan if you will.
In October, we’re exhibiting at Rengøringsmessen Rent i Danmark. This will be the first time my so-called "Event-Plan" is being used. I’ve already made some changes - e.g. adding a staffing plan to ensure we all have breaks, time for visiting other stands, and when build-up times/taking down should be done.
I will revise the plan after the trade fair - but I can already recommend other exhibitors to do the same. Make a plan. Break it down. Have everything in one place. It’s the same as with many other tasks, if you look at it as a whole, you don’t know where to begin, and how will you know when you’re done?
"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one."
(I stole it shamelessly from Mark Twain)
