The gathering proved to be a remarkable opportunity for investors and startups alike - fostering fresh connections - providing a platform to uncover investment prospects & perspectives. 🌱💼 The event kicked off with energetic pitch demos by two innovative startups, which set the tone for the rest of the day: - one pitch discussed a tech-enabled platform designed to empower music learners - the other focused on making healthy snacking accessible to everyone Following the demos, we had the pleasure of listening to a panel discussion led by distinguished investors working closely in the startup realm, Arvind Modi Rathnakar Samavedam, and Mahesh Iyer. In today's modern world, Design Thinking is considered as a transformative approach to problem solving; empowering people to find solutions and brainstorm with creativity. It was a excellent opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of user needs, generating innovative ideas, and prototyping solutions. One of the most exciting aspects of Design Thinking is that it fosters on collaborative spirit and diversity of ideas while working closely with teammates from different backgrounds and discipline. Design Thinking principles can be applied to a wide range of situations driving meaningful change and innovation, including solving complex business problems, designing user-friendly products, and enhancing organizational processes. Overall, my experience at Startup Incubator Berlin has been immensely enriching, and I'm eager to apply these newfound skills and insights. I would like to thank Harald Pflughaupt, The Berlin School of Economics and Law, the Berlin Professional School – HWR Berlin for an engaging workshop. Last weekend was different 😊. On Saturday, I conducted a workshop in Narva as part of the Spinner program aimed at young people interested in entrepreneurship 🚀. It was great to see that there are so many young people in Ida-Virumaa who have started working on their own businesses 💡 I know how exciting it is to start building a product based on your idea and enthusiasm without fully understanding who exactly the product is for, what potential users’ problems are, and what the competitive situation is like 🤔. I did not try to dampen the young people’s enthusiasm but rather gave them ideas on how to validate their ideas as quickly and inexpensively as possible. This would help improve their concepts and create something that provides value to users. What I talked about: ✅ Techniques for validating business ideas ✅ The importance of involving and understanding users ✅ Practical tips for conducting user interviews and surveys ✅ Some of my favorite frameworks for user discovery (user-journey map and jobs-to-be-done) ✅ The concept of a minimum viable product (MVP) ✅ Sharing the hard lessons I learned during the Touchpoint product launch ✅ MVP examples based on successful global companies and my own latest experience in Phishbite ✅ The importance of building feedback loops ✅ The continuous build-measure-learn process It was a long day, and by the evening, I had lost my voice 🤐. For me, this workshop was an MVP experiment in itself. It was the first time I conducted such a workshop/training. Fortunately, there was a feedback loop in place, and I got several ideas on how to improve next time 💪. During the day, I also had the opportunity to listen to an inspiring talk from Alexander Bitskov. His story about how he went from studying at a university in London and working there for global brands, to moving to Japan and then back to Narva to build his own startups and also a startup hub to have even bigger impact, was amazing 🌏✨. Over 500 young people have participated in the Spinner program over the course of five years, and it is great to see that strong foundations for the growth of the Estonian startup ecosystem have also been established in Narva.
