🚫 We often hear, “Rules are made to be broken,” and in UX design, this couldn’t be more true. Design rules exist for a reason- they provide structure and consistency. But some of the best, most memorable designs come from breaking them in a thoughtful way. The challenge? Knowing when to break them and making sure you still serve the user. For example, have you ever deviated from established design patterns to enhance usability or accessibility? ❇ A good designer knows the rules. A great designer knows when to break them. So, what’s one UX rule you've broken to improve the user experience? #UXDesign #DesignThinking #UserExperience #CreativeProcess

I recently came across a discussion on X that made me pause and think—are some design choices really up for debate? Take the color red, for example. In UX/UI design, red is a well-established design convention, often associated with actions like logging out, deleting, or stopping. A design convention is a widely recognized standard or pattern that users have come to expect. It makes interfaces more intuitive and helps users navigate with ease because they know what to expect. But what happens when we challenge these conventions? While innovation is key in design, some conventions serve a crucial role in maintaining usability. Changing a well-known convention, like the color red for logout, could lead to confusion and disrupt the user experience. What’s your take? Should we stick to these conventions, or is there room for change? #design #uidesign #uxdesign #user

In UX design, the "3-Click Rule" or "Rule of Thumb" is all about making things easy. The idea is simple: users should be able to navigate quickly and find what they need without too many steps. Whether it’s through three clicks or just a straightforward design, the goal is always a smooth and stress-free experience. Check out this engaging presentation by Ismail El Azizi which showcases this concept. 👇 #UXDesign #UIDesign #UserJourney #DesignTips

✨ First Impressions: A Critical Moment in UX Design ✨ First impressions are formed in the blink of an eye, and in the world of UX design, that split second can make or break a user’s engagement. I was reading an insightful article by Nielsen Norman Group that delves into how human automaticity influences first impressions. It’s fascinating to think that within milliseconds, users subconsciously decide whether they trust or engage with a product—based solely on its visual design. In my own work, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful first impressions can be. For instance, in one project, the initial interface we designed led to high bounce rates simply because the visual elements didn’t align with user expectations. After refining the aesthetics and simplifying the layout, engagement metrics improved significantly. This highlights the importance of balancing aesthetic appeal with functionality. Designers, we have the unique challenge of ensuring that our interfaces are not only beautiful but also intuitive and goal-oriented. The first impression opens the door, but the overall experience keeps users coming back. What do you prioritize in your designs to make those crucial first few seconds count? #UXDesign #FirstImpressions #HumanCognition #UserExperience #UI #DesignPsychology #NNG #DigitalProductDesign #InterfaceDesign

Here’s why it matters: 👀 Enhances visual clarity 📖 Boosts readability 🎯 Directs attention to key elements 🌿 Creates a calm, user-friendly experience Remember, less is often more! Embrace the space. 💡 #UXDesign #WhiteSpace #DesignTips #UserExperience #UIUX #Minimalism #DesignInspiration #DesignThinking #WebDesign

Meeting with a client yesterday on a new project, the topic of design trends in UX came up. I was glad to be working with someone who understands the importance of prioritizing user needs over distracting design elements. As UX designers, we need to remind ourselves (and sometimes our clients) that we're here to solve problems. That doesn't necessarily mean including cutting-edge visuals, animations, or other distracting elements. Trends come and go, but good UX is timeless. Focusing on user needs is the priority. Period. If a trend fits naturally and enhances usability, great! But we shouldn't sacrifice the user experience for the sake of being in vogue. #designtrends #userfocused #uxdesign #uxtrends #designforall #uxdesigner #productdesign #designprinciples, #userneeds #userexperience

"Good design, when it's done well, becomes invisible. It's only when it's done poorly that we notice it." – Jared Spool In UX design, the best experiences are often the ones that go unnoticed. When users can effortlessly navigate an interface, complete a task, or find what they're looking for without frustration, the design is doing its job. But when design is flawed—whether it’s a confusing layout, unclear instructions, or unnecessary steps—it grabs attention for all the wrong reasons. That's why our goal as UX designers is to create intuitive, seamless experiences that feel natural and easy. What’s an example of a design you use daily that’s so good, you barely notice it? #UXDesign #UserExperience #InvisibleDesign #GoodDesign #SeamlessExperience #DesignThinking #IntuitiveDesign
