Today, Phoenix welcomed a special guest to experience a day in the life of toolmaking. Ted, the son of long-time employee James Lander, had the opportunity to shadow his father and gain insight into the world of toolmaking. James has been a dedicated employee at Phoenix for over 30 years, showcasing his expertise, skill, and commitment to the toolmaking industry. As a senior member of the staff, James is highly respected and valued for his contribution to the company. Therefore, it was an honour for Phoenix to host his son for a work experience day. It is always exciting to see the next generation show interest in their parent's profession, and Ted's visit was a great opportunity to witness how his future might unfold. By observing his father at work, Ted gained a firsthand look at the intricacies of toolmaking and the dedication required to excel in this field. As Ted navigated through the workshop, he was able to witness the precision and attention to detail that goes into creating high-quality tools. In the background of the picture featuring James and Ted, there is a tool that James had previously crafted for one of Phoenix's clients. This tool serves as a testament to James's skills and craftsmanship, highlighting the level of expertise that he brings to his work. It was only fitting that James was pictured alongside his son, showcasing his talent and passing down his knowledge to the next generation. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of talent and inspiring young people to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering. We believe that by providing opportunities for work experience and mentorship, we can help shape the future of the industry and empower individuals like Ted to explore their passions and interests. We are confident that Ted's time with us will be both educational and inspiring, and we hope that he will leave with a renewed appreciation for the art and science of toolmaking. In closing, we would like to express our gratitude to James Lander for his years of dedication and service to Phoenix. “Thank You”. #workexperience #nextgeneration #dayinthelifeofatoolmaker #uktoolmakers

Mein letztes Business-Coaching vor der Kamera war wieder einmal in Englisch. So, let’s get straight to English. One of the exercises I do with my engineers, is to break down their text to the absolute minimum. Less is more. The engineer was supposed to tell me what a robot does. He started explaining the functions and so on… After 3 minutes, I stopped him. Then I asked him to wrap it up into one sentence. This is what he came up with: *"A robot is a powerful tool that streamlines business processes by automating repetitive tasks, freeing up human workers for more complex responsibilities."* So far, so good! Then my question: „Do you feel the text?“ „How can I feel it, it´s technical.“ He replied. How can you make it more engaging? I asked him to try explaining it to a child. This is what he came up with: *"A robot is a machine that helps people by doing simple, boring tasks so we can focus on the fun, tricky stuff!"* Fantastic, let´s try another one. **For the Engineer:** *"An optical measurement tool is a precision instrument that uses light to measure dimensions, distances, or surface characteristics with high accuracy. It typically employs lasers or sensors to capture data points and analyze them for quality control, inspection, or calibration purposes in engineering and manufacturing processes."* Now, let’s make it a little more appealing. **For the Customer:** *"Imagine a tool that uses light to check if every part fits perfectly, down to the smallest detail. This optical measurement device helps ensure precision in your work, so you can catch errors early, improve quality, and save time on rework—making your projects run smoother and more efficiently."* Perfect! Remember, it’s not about what you think is important; it’s about what your audience finds important. It´s about what they feel, when they hear you speak. How will it enhance their work life? It’s not just what you say, it’s how you say it, right? #susannehausschmid #kameratraining #videomentoring #videocoaching

Here's the second installment in my series about #Feedback. This LinkedIn series is all about sharing some of the rules we have at Throughline to keep our feedback collaborative, kind, and productive. Today, we're going over rule #2: Don't assume you know the solution.. and explain the concern! Just like in the example image below, let's say your team comes to you with a new mockup for a company newsletter and all of the titles are hard to read. Instead of authoritatively correcting and giving your opinion of what needs to be done, share the problem with your team and let them know why the titles need to be changed. Maybe there was a reason behind this color and font choice, maybe you can work together to come to an even better solution, OR maybe you are right. Either way, this way of communicating creates a better environment for you and your team. #CommunicationTips #SolutionOriented #FeedbackFocus #FuelYourFeedback #CompanyCulture #Throughline
