It's three weeks since I was on stage in with James Callen to launch Pancare Foundation's Par 5 business program to 100+ business leaders in #sydney. James took the place of his brother Luke to share their family's experience of #pancreaticcancer. Less than a month earlier, Luke lost his battle at just 46 years of age - leaving behind a wife and three kids, and a huge network of dear friends and #business associates. Sadly, they are just one of nearly 14,000 Australian families who experience an upper gastrointestinal (GI) #cancer diagnosis every year. These cancers have an average 5-year survival rate of 20%. Pancreatic cancer sits at just 12.7%. Atrocious statistics that translate to lives destroyed. Luke was a rare breed, a force of nature with an infectious sense of humour and optimistic outlook on life. He was determined that something good might come of his situation. Luke was the catalyst for bringing his #family and #network together to enable the launch and expansion of Par 5 in Sydney. We can't thank all of them enough. Par 5 is a rapidly growing private #network and #marketplace of like-minded businesses that work together commercially for mutual benefit, and ultimately to create sustainable and scalable revenue for #cancerresearch. As Luke so profoundly put it during a meeting with us last year: "This is not about me… this is about ensuring the next generation don’t face the same situation that I’m in. It’s about our kids – and their kids." 💜 As a father of three boys, Luke's comment hit me hard between the eyes - and reminded me that #cancerresearch is a long game. Pancare Foundation and Par 5 needs great people and their businesses to join us on that journey.

Today, together with Prostate Cancer UK, we launch the BOG STANDARD Charter, aimed to encourage organisations to provide the necessary products so men can dispose of their incontinence products with dignity - and continue to do the things they love to do with their family and friends. From our research, we uncover that 66% of men said they find the constant planning and organisation around ensuring adequate toilet and bin access 'utterly exhausting', and 79% of men miss day-to-day activities due to their incontinence, and fears about leaking and not having access to bins or incontinence products. We are calling on every organisation to sign-up to the BOG STANDARD, so men can live their lives well - free from shame and anxiety. Its the right thing to do.
