It’s time to focus on the foundation of our textile system. As we push for healthier and more transparent textile practices, it’s essential to address the materials at their core. Natural fibers, derived from living ecosystems, can offer a pathway to a regenerative future—one that breaks free from the fossil-fuel dependency of synthetic, plastic-based textiles. While regulating harmful chemicals in our textiles is critical, we must prioritize healthy natural fibers as the baseline. By shifting our focus to these materials, we can support responsible textile production—something that is only possible within the boundaries and beauty of natural systems. Addressing microplastic emissions, reducing climate disruption, changing the model of overproduction, cultivating land-based economies that value community health and equity — all of these goals can only be achieved by starting with a priority for healthy natural fiber textile materials. It's time to rethink what’s in our clothes, from the fibers up. 🌿 Ready to learn more? Dear Fiber Lovers, have you ever wonder: 🌱 Why Are Sustainable Fibers Still Hard to Find? 🌱 We often hear brands touting their "sustainable" products and see reports emphasizing sustainability, yet meaningful progress in sustainable fiber production remains elusive. Are we truly seeing a shift, or is the growth of organic and regenerative fibers still too slow? In my latest article on Substack, I dive deep into this issue, exploring: The slow growth of organic cotton in comparison to overall cotton production The disconnect between sustainability promises and actual practices My personal journey and the creation of FiberWay, a platform aimed at bridging these gaps Through this series, I’ll examine the major challenges facing the textile industry, including transparency, farmer support, economic pressures, and more. Each piece will provide insights into the state of the industry and explore potential solutions. At FiberWay, we're committed to creating a transparent, efficient, and supportive ecosystem for all stakeholders in the textile supply chain. Join me in uncovering these challenges and discovering how we can drive real change together. #SustainableFashion #FiberWay #TextileIndustry #OrganicCotton #SustainableFibers #SupplyChain #Transparency #FashionRevolution #Sustainability

OceanSafe is pleased to be included in Material Innovation Initiatives latest white spaces report as one of the leading Next Gen material innovation companies. As the report describes, ‘Polyester accounts for approximately 54% of all textile raw materials produced annually, with over 63 million tons produced in 2022 alone’, resulting in numerous environmental issues including microplastic fibre release. Additionally, the report highlights that ‘microplastics cause the most damage to ecosystems through harming keystone species — including some species of zooplankton, crabs, and coral — all of whom serve critical functions for entire ecosystems.’ ➡️ At OceanSafe, our next-gen biodegradable polyester naNea has a novel polymer structure that renders biodegradability in the open environment. naNea does not emit persistent microplastics, nor does it contain antimony or other harmful substances. In addition, naNea is not just a concept or prototype; it is fully market-ready and scalable. Our ambition is to address and solve the textile industry’s most pressing environmental issues and our solutions have a positive impact on planetary and consumer health. 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/d42Dz3iJ #OceanSafe #NextGenMaterials #Circularity #NoToxicants #Biodegradable #materialinnovationinitiative Thomasine Dolan Dow
