In the plastic industry, it is necessary to handle various types of materials, such as polymers, techno-polymers, compounds, resins, and masterbatch, preserving their integrity to ensure their usability in future processes. Our piFLOW® conveyors are ideal for these applications, as they safeguard the quality of the plastic granules: the low conveying speed prevents breakage, abrasion, and the generation of dust, which is common with additive polymers, thereby preventing contamination with the surrounding environment thanks to the closed design. Furthermore, our vacuum conveying solutions are easy to clean and allow for quick product changes, a feature particularly appreciated by compound and masterbatch producers who need to handle products of different colors and consistencies. The smooth, even and blemish-free texture you see on all plastic products is achieved through a process called extruder degassing. In the extrusion process, plastic is melted by friction and heat to a viscous liquid and then forced through a device to get its final shape. Vacuum is applied before to remove trapped gases, which can create voids or other imperfections in the final product, its also used after for cooling and forming of the final product.Degassing can also help to improve the optical clarity of plastics. Our EXTRUVAC vacuum pumps are suitable for this process and enable enhanced product quality and consistency by reducing defects significantly. In the processing of engineering plastics, efficient and accurate material drying is crucial to ensure highest product quality. ❗ This is why with its trend graph residual moisture, the Moisture Minder™ is a tool to continuously, efficiently and accurately measure the residual moisture of all plastic granules with a material throughput of 10 to 2500 kg/h. The sensor can be mounted directly under the drying bin. Let’s Talk About Processes That Transform Plastics: An Introduction to Plastic Extrusion Plastic extrusion is a process where polymer material, enriched with desired additives, is melted and continuously formed. Polymer granules are gravity-fed from a hopper into one or more screws, driven by an electric motor. The design of the screw(s) varies, pushing the plastic forward through a heated barrel. At the end of the screw(s), the well-mixed molten plastic is forced through a die that gives the final product its desired profile and shape. After exiting the extruder, the material is cooled using various methods. #PlasticExtrusion #ManufacturingProcess #IndustrialInnovation #MaterialTechnology

Engineered plastics are fascinating and offer a wide range of possibilities. They open up a new world of optimal materials. I plan to explore and research a new type of engineered plastic each day. For example, PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) has significantly better resistance and UV stability compared to common plastics like ABS. Utilizing engineered plastics not only enhances a product's ability to withstand environmental conditions but also allows for the use of less material; for instance, PBT can be used at approximately 0.050 inches thick instead of 0.065 inches. Less.

Did you know? Ever wonder how various plastics are combined to create new materials? It's all about blending/compounding! Manufacturers employ heat or chemical processes to blend different plastics into one, or use high-pressure machining to compound materials together. This innovative technique is used to form a myriad of plastic parts, base resins, blowing agents, purge compounds, and flame retardants. Next time you spot a durable plastic product, remember the intricate process behind its creation! Curious about other fabrication techniques? Lets get in touch! #PlasticInnovation #ManufacturingMarvels#DidYouKnow
