𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 Hi everyone, my name is Marilyn Bongers! I’m a Runner (Trainer) at Picnic! 🚚 You might see me at your doorstep delivering groceries, hanging on a wall at Headquarters, or even in one of our recruitment posts on TikTok or Instagram Reels. 🤳 As a Runner, I never expected Picnic to offer such a wide range of opportunities. At first, I thought it was just a delivery job, but Picnic is so much more than that! Of course, delivering groceries is at the core of what we do, but the different kinds of people you meet and the challenges you face in different neighborhoods make every day unique and exciting. Beyond training new Runners, there’s so much more to explore here! For instance, I get to brainstorm creative ideas to recruit new Runners through social media. I love making TikToks with Dylan Dingjan, we always have a good laugh making these. I even got the chance to be part of a Runner photoshoot. Some of the beautiful photos we took are featured on the recruitment site—and one of them is proudly displayed at HQ! I love the energy and variety this job brings me. I really enjoy working here, and you can definitely tell by the smile I bring to the workplace. 😁 That smile gets even bigger when I show up and see my friends on shift too! I’m a people person through and through, and being a Runner (Trainer) allows me to connect with others both on and off the job. When people ask me what I do, I always respond enthusiastically: I work at Picnic! ❤️

What's a work picnic? My 5th grade teacher, Ms. U, excelled at incorporating life lessons into her daily teaching. One of her famous teaching tools was that of a work picnic. Work picnics were something of a legend and rite of passage in my school. Wondering what a work picnic is? It's quite simple. It's working before picnicking in the park. At its essence, a work picnic is the lesson of "work before play." Here's how my teacher did just that. She taught us to: 🍎 Prepare to work. A few times in the spring semester we gathered our books, lunches, and sports equipment and head down to the local park. 🍎 Focus on our work. We laid out some blankets, sat down, and studiously worked from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. 🍎 Celebrate our success. It was time to picnic! We enjoyed our lunches, treats, and games all afternoon long until it was time to go home. I thought of this experience today as I wrapped up some work. It's a wonderful memory, and even more powerful lesson that even the most mundane of experiences have something to teach us. How do you reward yourself after a job well done? How does working at EF inspire you? I'm inspired by seeing the reach that Elevated Faith has across the country, and even the globe as we send out packages to all different countries. We are only half way through September but it has already been one crazy month. I have moved out with my partner, taken a step up the career ladder and I’ve started working for my close friends and family; building my skills in graphic design bit by bit. I am currently working as a supervisor for Airhop Ipswich, a recent promotion and role I take great pride in. Having worked for Airhop since September 2023 and progressing to supervisor exactly one year later, it only feels right to say I’m extremely proud of my team. Not only my team of marshals, but the team of management that surrounds me to create the environment we work in. Having worked as a teaching assistant, shadowing team member at a sports centre, retail assistant, kitchen crew etc. it’s extremely easy for me to say I have never been in a working environment as healthy as the one I’m in now. Not a single day goes by where I don’t come home with something positive to say about my job. Whether it’s one of our amazing customers, a review with my name, or another staff member being their usual bubbly and welcoming self, I’m never shy of things to say. My incredibly supportive partner always gives me the challenge of “come home and tell me 10 good things about your day”. This challenge has given me a new perspective on life overall. Negative things are so easy to focus on, even in a sea of positives, that they can ruin virtually anything. It’s like you’ve found the needle in the haystack and can’t help but wonder “how many more are hiding?”. This was the case for me at least. I would focus so hard on the negatives I would end up waiting for the next mishap, ignoring everything in between. With this goal in place, I have ended up focusing so hard on each good thing (and I have literally listed things like “a baby smiled at me today”), that I’ve managed to completely ignore anything bad, each positive gained so much more value and sentiment that I hadn’t even noticed the negatives. If you’re competitive, give yourself this goal, because if you can list more than 10 things at the end of the day, I can promise you you’re going to sleep feeling accomplished. Share them with someone no matter how small or silly they may be (again with the smiling babies), and set someone else the same challenge. This challenge has also made me so much more grateful for my job, the people I talk to and encounter daily, my coworkers, and every little task I have to do there, because they have made this challenge incredibly easy for me. Emma Hunt, you should feel proud of yourself too, thankyou.

Egg Drop Challenge 🥚🤔 In Surf Office, we constantly gather customer feedback about the best team-building activities during the company offsites. Most teams usually choose something casual like cooking, walking tours, or e-bike trips. But there is one surprising activity I've heard about a couple of times: the "egg drop challenge" It's pretty simple: 1️⃣ You divide your team into groups of 3-5 people 2️⃣ Each team receives a few eggs 3️⃣ Then they must design and build a structure that will prevent their egg from breaking when dropped from the second floor of the building on the concrete 4️⃣ You can provide some materials (tapes, straws, papers, etc.) or leave them to improvise with whatever they can find 5️⃣ The team that can do it first wins Once, I heard the feedback that "This is the best team-building activity we've ever done". I want to try this challenge at our next company offsite in December.
