Tomorrow, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks a significant milestone in American history—the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in 1865. This day is not just a reminder of the end of a dark chapter but also a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the continuous fight for equality. As a white-presenting woman, I recognize the importance of using my voice and platform to support and uplift marginalized communities. Allyship is not a passive role; it requires active engagement, education, and advocacy. Here are a few ways I’ve committed to being a better ally: 1) Listening and Learning: I strive to educate myself about the history and ongoing struggles of Black communities. Understanding the significance of Juneteenth and the broader context of racial injustice is essential. 2) Advocating for Change: Beyond words, I am dedicated to advocating for policies and practices that promote equality and justice within my professional and personal spheres. 3) Supporting Black-Owned Businesses: Economic empowerment is a vital aspect of racial equity. I make a conscious effort to support Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the progress we've made and recognize the work that still lies ahead. Let's honor this day by committing to actions that foster equality and inclusion every day of the year. Not sure where to start? Boundless, in partnership with Brandeis University and JCC Association of North America, recently hosted a “Navigating Israel and the Rise of Antisemitism” seminar for 50 JCC executives from across the US. "The seminar provided 'an academic deep dive' into the history of antisemitism and how it connects to Israel... Attendees learned how to support and nurture 'a big tent community' with diverse perspectives on these topics." Read more in eJewishPhilanthropy: https://lnkd.in/eU9NJHFB

The world looks vastly different today than it did in 2005 when Moving Traditions was founded. Our programs continuously evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of teens, their parents, and educators so that no matter what our teens are faced with, they are prepared to thrive. As a result, the number of teens we serve has grown dramatically in recent years. Over this part year, Moving Traditions engaged nearly 8,000 Jewish teens in our programs, through a network of more than 200 partners across North America. September 30, 2024, marks the fourth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a day to pause, reflect, and honor the Indigenous children who never returned from residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families, and communities. This year’s theme, Learning Through Listening, encourages us to deepen our understanding by hearing and acknowledging Indigenous voices. Here are some ways we can show support to our Indigenous communities: • Education for Understanding: Commit to learning about the historical injustices endured by Indigenous peoples and their lasting impact. • Compassion in Unity: Extend empathy and understanding to Indigenous communities as we reflect on shared history. • A Journey of Healing and Hope: Reconciliation is an ongoing process. It’s about addressing past harms and fostering hope for a future where all voices are respected, and cultures are celebrated. • A Collective Responsibility: Reconciliation isn’t for the few - it’s for all of us. Let’s work together to break down barriers and build a more equitable society. • Engage and Listen: Today, take time to have meaningful conversations, share stories, and truly listen to the experiences of Indigenous peoples. #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #IndigenousRights
