Design > brand. Or we need it to be. This quote from design leader Karim Rashid follows a similar one I posted the other day from the CEO of MARUGAL - Distinctive Hotel Management. "Simply put the world is under-designed and over-branded," said Rashid. "We're destroying the earth, we're overproducing, we're over consuming, and yet a lot of what we're consuming and producing doesn't have any real place in our daily lives. "Design should be about elevating the human experience, progressing and evolving humanity." https://lnkd.in/ecNZT8P6

>>RETHINK YOUR DESIGN APPROACH: why “WHAT YOU HAVE ALWAYS DONE” might no longer be enough In a world that is evolving rapidly, sticking to traditional design approaches is not just outdated — it can limit the potential for positive impact. Many of us have built careers relying on established methods, time-tested formulas, and familiar aesthetics and solutions. But if we are honest, we know there is a gap between what we have always done and what truly serves the well-being of the people who inhabit built spaces. It is time to ‘think outside the box’ and reimagine our approach with human health and wellness as our driving force, alongside attitudes of respect for the environment and all other living beings on Earth. --- DESIGNING FOR HEALTH & WELL-BEING Great design is more than aesthetics; it is a way of caring for people. Biophilic elements and attributes play a transformative role. By bringing Nature inside, we create environments that reduce stress and improve restoration. Additionally, flexible spaces—designed to adapt as user needs change—empower people, offering them control and comfort, which ultimately supports their mental and physical well-being. These considerations move us far beyond conventional “design” into a realm where architecture, interiors, and materials contribute to better lives. --- “WHAT YOU’VE ALWAYS DONE” IS NOT AN EXCUSE ANYMORE The phrase “THIS HAS ALWAYS WORKED BEFORE” is now more of a limitation than a guideline. Every project presents a unique opportunity to break out of our usual patterns. Asking users for feedback, experimenting with small changes, and staying curious about the latest in scientific research can all help us redefine what we create. These steps may be challenging, but they keep us relevant and allow us to build spaces that truly nurture and inspire. By putting human well-being at the center of our approach, alongside a commitment to safeguarding the environment and all other living creatures, we can design environments that genuinely enhance lives. In a world where our surroundings shape us, it is time to design in ways that make people feel safe, heathy and as a part of something designed specifically for their well-being. We need to rethink our approach, drive innovation, and LET GO OF WHAT HAS ALWAYS “WORKED.” This is how we design for the future, and how we shape better experiences for everyone. #wearenature #biophilia #biofilia #biophobia #biofobia #biophilic #biophilicdesign #progettazionebiofilica #progettazionebiofila #biophilicarchitecture #biophilicoffice #ufficiobiofilo #biophilicretail #retailbiofilico #architetturabiofilica #sustainability #sostenibilità #regenerative #regeneration #biocentric #biocentrico #nature #natura #naturebased #greenarchitecture #environment #ambiente #architecture #architettura #design #interiordesign #interiors #reconnectingwithnature

Design inspiration can come from the most unexpected places! During a charity trip to Cambodia with Raw Impact, I stumbled upon a brilliant room layout that sparked some fresh ideas for properties in Australia. The hotel made clever use of cabinetry to separate dining and sleeping areas, maximizing the space in ways I hadn’t seen before. It got me thinking: Could we bring this kind of innovation to our rooming houses back home? What do you think—would you go for a creative layout like this or prefer a more traditional design?

“form” should be a natural outgrowth of “function” - the importance of practicality and efficiency in design To illustrate this post, which aims to emphasize the fact that Contemporary Health Tourism has been designed to serve “function”, I used the front cover of the book titled “Form, Function & Design”, by Paul Jacques Grillo, a used copy of which one can buy for $8.07, through Amazon ( https://lnkd.in/d-QeueWR ). The point being made in this post, is that, as a matter of policy and strategy, Contemporary Health Tourism (a.k.a. – and symbolized by – ht8), in terms of “form” (shape and structure), has been designed to serve function: · attain health · maintain health · restore health ht8 shuns hype, show, fanfare, ornamentation, smoke & mirrors and ostentation – which distract from the real purpose (i.e., the “function”). a note on "form serving function" - a Contemporary Health Tourism “strategic concept & practice” BTW, “form should serve function” has been designated a Contemporary Health Tourism “strategic concept & practice”. The phrase "form serving function" is a principle that suggests that the design or structure of something should be determined by its purpose or function. In other words, the form should follow the function. This concept has its roots in the Bauhaus movement, a German school of art and design founded in 1919. The Bauhaus emphasized functionality and simplicity in design, believing that objects should be designed to serve their intended purposes efficiently and without unnecessary ornamentation. The mantra "form serving function" became a guiding principle for architects, designers, and engineers, influencing the development of modernism and functionalism in design. It continues to be a relevant and influential principle in various fields, from product design to architecture. In essence, "form serving function" means that the design of something should be driven by its purpose, rather than being dictated by aesthetic considerations alone. The concept that form should serve function is often attributed to the American architect Louis Sullivan who popularized it in the late 19th century. He believed that buildings should be designed to serve their intended purposes efficiently and beautifully, and that their form should be a natural outgrowth of their function. The phrase has since become a widely recognized principle in various fields, including architecture, design, and engineering. It emphasizes the importance of practicality and efficiency in design, while also suggesting that a well-designed object can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. #Form #Design #Function #Structure #HealthTourism #ht8 #ContemporaryHealthTourism #Constantinides #Health #LinkedIn #Tourism #Travel #ContemporaryMedicalTourism #MedicalTourism #DentalTourism #SpaTourism #WellnessTourism #SportsTourism #CulinaryTourism #AccessibleTourism #AssistedResidentialTourism

Sustainable design transcends visual aesthetics and biophilia. While it’s important to acknowledge how design can impact the environment, it’s equally important to prioritize the impact spaces can have on the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Megan Valentine (Dougherty), Director of Sustainability at KTGY, notes sustainable design as more than just an industry buzzword. Moreso it’s a crucial move towards creating spaces that thrive and support life in every sense. A holistic approach to design can create enduring spaces and a foundation for a more viable future. #SustainableDesign #EnvironmentalImpact #ResponsibleDesign

Car Shaped Villas offer a fascinating example of how innovative design can impact marketing and brand perception. The concept of car-shaped residences is not just an aesthetic curiosity but a strategy designed to evoke emotions and create a memorable connection with the audience. Why it works: Innovative Design: The unusual shape grabs attention and stands out in a crowded market, making the brand easily memorable. Emotional Connection: The unique design creates an emotionally engaging experience, associating the brand with positive and memorable feelings. Brand Experience: Interaction with such a distinct product can increase engagement and word-of-mouth, expanding the brand’s reach. Why it might not work: High Cost: Bold design projects can be expensive, potentially limiting accessibility and return on investment. Audience Fit: Not all consumers may identify with or value such an unconventional design, which may reduce its appeal to a broader audience. Maintenance and Functionality: The practical viability and maintenance of such an innovative design may present challenges, affecting the overall user experience. In summary, Car Shaped Villas have significant potential to create a positive and memorable impact, but it's crucial to consider costs and audience fit to ensure the strategy's success.
