⚡Can Australia Accelerate Underground Mine Electrification? Australia's mining industry is at a turning point: the race to decarbonise meets surging demand for critical minerals. While electrification of underground mining equipment offers a path to lower emissions, adoption remains slow, with only 16 operational electric vehicles to date. Barriers like high costs, remote energy challenges, and limited policy incentives persist, but innovation is on the rise. From ABB's BEV studies to Caterpillar Inc.’s Early Learner program, collaboration is lighting the way toward a greener, more efficient mining future. Read Andy Tunnicliffe's full insights to learn how the industry can overcome these hurdles: https://lnkd.in/gFvAbiFB #MineAustralia #MiningTechnology #Decarbonisation #UndergroundMining #Sustainability #Electrification #Innovation #ABB #Caterpillar #EnergyTransition

The Economist recently confirmed 6.5M tons of minerals are needed to decarbonize the world by 2050. Without #innovation, such unprecedented mineral extraction will come at a cost well beyond mining’s fiscal bottom-line. Read our latest piece in Global Mining Review to learn how First Mode’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) retrofit product addresses these costs, unlocking mining’s role in the global #cleanenergy transition. https://lnkd.in/gFF-V3xW #CleanEnergyFuture #FirstModePathToZero #ClimateSolutions

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 by Aaliyah Rogan; Mining.com.au “We need #mining, we need it to live in the way we do and to #transition to the #renewable economy.” That is the #world according to ABx Group Managing Director and CEO Dr Mark Cooksey and many others in the resources #sector globally. Among the collective #consciousness there is concern in some #segments of the #community about the #environmental effects #mining for natural resources has on #MotherEarth. There is often a disregard or even contempt towards the need for the very #resources being mined — and just how vital and valuable they are to not just everyday life but to a #green and #sustainable future of net zero carbon #emissions by 2050. As mining #executives explain to this news service, achieving global #greenenergy #goals is not possible without mining a vast array of #materials and #metals, and other #minerals such as those used in agriculture. In 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published its ‘Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector’, which outlines an achievable #pathway for the #energysector to reach #netzero emissions. On this day – 22 April in 1970 – more than half a century before the #IEA roadmap was released, #EarthDay was born. Since then more than 1 billion people have been mobilised annually to help protect the planet. The full article link is here: https://lnkd.in/gUGWsKr3

Regulations that attempted to sunset coal mining while there is still demand should be gone with the first bill to fix the Resource Management Act (RMA). Straterra has advocated for this to happen and we look forward to a sensible future approach. The reality is there is still a need for coal, both in New Zealand and globally, and it must remain available until there are accessible, affordable, readily available alternatives for a world with increasing demand for electricity and technology. #coal #mining #energy #affordableelectricity

Australia has a national target to reduce emissions by 43% compared with 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050. Mining accounted for almost a quarter of its emissions in 2022, so has a large role to play. SulNOx Group PLC is working with the sector, deploying its natural decarbonisation solutions to help cut emissions in the mining process and immediate supply chain, reduce fuel costs and meet regulatory goals. https://lnkd.in/eT8baiUs #fueltech #emissions #netzero #shipping #greenshipping #COP29 #ports #greentech #NOx #pollution #fueladditives #dieselconditioner #diesel #fuelconditioner #sustainableshipping #decarbonisation #Aquis #CII #ESG #innovation #mining #roadtransport #greenhousegases #air #EST #greentech #HFSO #biofuels #Africa #shipfinance #superyachts #generator #generators #GHG #IMO #marine #USsales #marineengineering

The #mining industry requires practical mission parameters such as quick refueling of various #transport vehicles and power equipment on site. Having #hydrogen in a form that enables quick refill helps with the transition towards zero-emission mining #vehicles and reduced #emissions (both GHG and air pollutants) for the site operations. From the article, two key details: 1. The liquid hydrogen (LH2) from the plant will be used to power Fortescue’s zero-emissions mining equipment prototypes including its offboard power unit and its hydrogen-powered haul truck prototype. 2. The LH2 plant can produce approximately 350 kg of LH2 per day and has about 600 kg of storage. Hopefully, this early trial proves worthy to expand adoption of LH2 for more vehicles and other vehicle types at the site. #Australia #zeroemissions
