🇨🇭 I highly recommend reading this insightful interview with Nicoletta della Valle, the head of the Polizia federale fedpol, on 'The Hidden Face of Crime in #Switzerland'. In the interview, della Valle highlights how organized crime is deeply entrenched in Swiss society, ranging from #drug and #armstrafficking to #moneylaundering. She describes how seemingly empty yet centrally located restaurants and shops can serve as fronts for these #illicitactivities. Additionally, she emphasizes the critical role of #SkyECC, an encrypted messaging service used by criminals, which has led to the initiation of about 60 investigations thanks to data decoded by Europol. Despite these efforts, a lack of resources prevents a comprehensive analysis of the data, with only 20% examined so far. This detailed exposition sheds light on the complex network of #organizedcrime that urgently requires more attention and resources for effective counteraction. https://lnkd.in/dz4D3n_6 #aml #antimoneylaundering #financialcrime #compliance

🚨 £𝟳 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗞 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗦𝗺𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗺𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲 🚨 A £7 billion drug empire, led by notorious gangster Paul Green, known as “The Big Fella,” has been dismantled after a bungling smuggler left a van full of amphetamines unguarded in Amsterdam to go on an all-night drinking session. This was just one of many mistakes that led to the downfall of the largest drug operation ever detected in the UK. The gang was responsible for smuggling heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, and cannabis into the UK, often hidden within pallets of onions, garlic, and ginger to evade detection. Despite numerous arrests and drug seizures, they continued to operate, switching tactics and criminal groups to avoid detection. The plot was finally foiled when a Dutch driver, suspicious of the cargo, called the police, uncovering hidden cocaine. Later, Dutch officers were monitoring Green’s crew when the smuggler’s van was left unattended, leading to a police interception. Paul Green, along with his key associates, was sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Green received 32 years for his role in this high-harm operation. This case highlights the incredible lengths criminals will go to, but also the determination of law enforcement agencies in tracking and dismantling such operations. This story serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that organised crime and drug smuggling can have on communities, with far-reaching consequences beyond just the illegal goods. #Hartfordconsulting #DrugSmuggling #OrganisedCrime #FinancialCrime #NCA #LawEnforcement #CriminalJustice #UKCrime #InternationalCrime #DrugSeizure #JusticeServed Image credit: www.independent.co.uk 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 Hartford Consulting Ltd

Illegal fentanyl kills tens of thousands of Americans every year, but it is only possible for it to do this by way of a sophisticated, globalised supply chain. In this Moody's white paper, we show how one of the most successful ways to combat transnational #DrugTrafficking is by targeting the entities through which criminal groups launder the money they raise. In particular, it highlights the role #Data and innovative technology play in efficiently combating drug trade by identifying shelf and #ShellCompanies criminal groups use to cover up their tracks. Identifying these entities and tracking down their owners is like following a trail of breadcrumbs that leads you to the masterminds behind drug-related criminal activities. If you want to learn more about how illegal drug trade investigation and prevention can be improved worldwide, check it out. https://lnkd.in/eC2UtTqC

#PipeDream - Tackling organised crime like drugs needs better organised LEA's. So Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain – committed themselves to enhancing the resilience of their countries’ logistical hubs to organised crime, to intensifying efforts to disrupt the upstream flow of cocaine in countries of origin and transit, and to focusing on dismantling criminal networks. #WorkingTogetherAsOne #DrugSmuggling https://lnkd.in/eKjW6wEt

⚠️ Drug traffickers have become increasingly violent in recent years, with drug trafficking often fuelling other serious crimes, such as human trafficking, environmental crime, cybercrime and labour exploitation. These interconnected threats jeopardise individual safety, as well as the stability and well-being of entire communities. 📍 Today in Brussels, Vice-President Boštjan Škrlec gave the opening remarks at the first European Conference on Drug-Related Violence, hosted by the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA). At Eurojust, drug trafficking is consistently among the top three crime types we handle, and the scale of the problem has grown significantly. But despite ongoing efforts, several challenges remain, including the need to harmonise legislation, enhance data-sharing and bridge resource gaps. 💪 No single entity can tackle these challenges alone. But by working together as nations, institutions and across disciplines we can disrupt criminal networks, hold perpetrators accountable & protect our societies. Together we can #BreakTheCycle.

Your Sunday morning brunch may have been prepared by a Mexican drug cartel. Kind of... Mexico's multibillion-dollar avocado industry, which continues to break records for exports every year, has also been one of the main targets for drug cartels. According to a recent article in USA Today. In Michoacán, the only state authorized to export the fruit to the U.S., CJNG and local gangs demand payments from farmers, often referred to as "protection fees." These fees can range from $135 to $500 per hectare monthly, depending on the size of the farm and the level of perceived threat. The extortion process begins with cartels identifying and targeting profitable farms. Armed cartel members then approach the farmers, issuing threats of violence or property damage if the farmers refuse to comply. Transnational criminal organizations #tcos such as the Mexican drug cartels have evolved from trafficking to scamming and other criminal activity. https://lnkd.in/eMz4Sm_3 A good result by the Garda Síochána. However the following article illustrates a number of factors important to Port Security Management: 1. Ports and freight units continue to be critical for the needs of organised crime to transport their illicit goods. Although this article highlights drug trafficking, trafficking routes are used for other causes including trafficking of humans, weapons, money etc. 2. Spain and mainland Europe continue to remain major routes for crime groups trafficking into the Republic of Ireland by using freight units including trailers, shipping containers or other tactics such as landing loads along Ireland’s deserted coastline or exchanging loads at rendezvous locations at sea. 3. The Republic of Ireland is and remains a major route for organised crime trafficking throughout Ireland as well as into the UK via Northern Ireland. Empower your people through effective awareness training in identifying and countering trafficking and how to report suspicious activities. Ports can support and enable greater collaboration between public and private sectors in combating crime including sharing of information to enhance intelligence. By countering organised crime in ports, ports can help reduce risk from insider threats and increase risk of violence from crime groups. #invisibletraffick #makingtheinvisiblevisible Never underestimate the power of collaboration #NUTPOC
