#BITSPilani Fellow to Founder to #Unicorn. Did you know? BITS Pilani #ranks amongst one of the highest in the non-US #universities for producing unicorn founders in the USA! 🦄✨ Curious about how BITS Pilani has consistently produced successful entrepreneurs and innovators, even without external government support, unlike the IITs? Let's explore .... Over the years, BITS has established a remarkable legacy dating back to the 1970s when terms like "#Entrepreneurship & #Startups" were unfamiliar to most of the nation. The institute takes pride in its alumni network, which includes a robust family tree of successful entrepreneurs, investors, venture capitalists (VCs), mentors, and corporate professionals. This network stands as a testament to BITS' commitment to fostering entrepreneurship. The institute boasts highly experienced faculty members and mentors specializing in entrepreneurship, research, and innovation. Moreover, it has cultivated an ecosystem that actively promotes a culture of innovation and startup development. Every alternate room in our hostels is a #Mecca of innovation. From classroom to boardroom, the journey hits different today. BITS Pilani just spotlighted my story, and I'm... overwhelmed. Rewind to 2018: A wide-eyed freshman, dreaming big but doubting bigger. Fast forward to now: CEO, Maya Biotech. Top 10 in Pharma Outlook 2024. But here's the thing: It's not about the titles or the awards. It's about the moments that shaped me: → Late nights in the BITS Embryo office (Did we change the world? No. Did we learn to try? Hell yes.) → My first pitch at JPMorgan (Shout out to the mentor who had my back) → That product launch at Park+ (Which taught me resilience isn't just a buzzword) To my BITS family: You saw potential in a kid who couldn't see it in himself. Every "you've got this" echoes in my decisions today. To my professors: Your lessons went beyond textbooks. You taught me to question, to innovate, to lead. To my classmates: We stressed, we celebrated, we grew. Your success inspires me daily. This spotlight? It's not mine alone. It belongs to every person who believed in me. Especially when I didn't. So here I am, a CEO with a heart full of gratitude, And eyes a bit misty (no, it's not allergies). BITS didn't just give me a degree. It gave me the courage to dream bigger than I thought possible. To every college student out there: Your journey matters. Your struggles are valid. Your potential is limitless. What's your uni story? How has it shaped your path? Let's celebrate our roots and inspire the next generation.

There is a strong hope in the room for a better world. Over 150 students and faculty members, at this stellar Young Entrepreneurs’ BootCamp (YEB) at BITS Pilani by the amazing teams at BITS, Goa campus. Interestingly, when I asked them about their goals and ambitions, more than half of these students spoke about a better world, social equality, access to PWDs, Waste management, climate change and so much more that put a smile on my face, and those of senior members present in the audience. These folks will go on to build a strong sense of purpose, create sustainable ventures, some may even catalyze unprecedented social value. I am sure that few of these students would become advocates for mitigating climate change. We have less time ( ~ 5 years or less) and as the last slide said “Goals are dreams with a deadline”. Again, Thanks to the entire team at BITS for this opportunity, for creating this cohort of extremely bright individuals. The leadership and the organizers have created a very strong butterfly effect of change and changemakers. I am still reeling in the feedback and multiple emails with "ideas for a better world" Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Director BITS Pilani - K.K. #Alumni #networks like #boys club or lately girls' gang are designed to exclude those who don't belong to them. While #linkedincommunity is full of these alumni networks and everyone prides themselves on being in one, it is important to hear about the impact of these networks from those excluded. A while back I was part of a Design group for a university that was being set up, a small group of #IITDelhi guys were also part of the core group. Their biggest accomplishment in life was #JEE and the #rank they had procured. It did not matter what they had done later in life one exam determined their status in life and they behaved in that meeting like a #frat #boys #club. They did not want to listen to anyone not from #IIT and there were several around the table who were experts in their own areas but were not from IIT. But they were dismissive, arrogant and ignored everyone else around the table and ran roughshod over everyone else. I got very tired of their boorish behaviour and I asked them that because they were so highly ranked JEE guys, they would know which is the biggest newspaper in the world and in India. Guess what, their answers were limited to the English language world. I said its not their fault that they know only one language and their learning is limited by that. They may be IIT engineers and know the engineering language but they need to learn other languages and design is a language if they want their word to count in the meeting. They got the message. But I also never participated with that group, because if the DNA of #decision making is based on #exclusion nothing good comes out of it. And #alumni #clubs are #exclusionary by nature. Most hiring decision has to account for conscious bias and alumni is an unconscious bias. An IITian remarked on this post, he said 90 per cent of his batch has underperformed. they never achieved the potential they promised in their 20's , maybe because of an entitlement mindset.
It's #nepotism After IIM Lucknow, now BITS Pilani is reaching out to alumni for assistance with placements. However, I question whether the sole criteria of being from IIM Lucknow or BITS Pilani should determine a candidate's worthiness for hiring. Doesn't this reflect corporate nepotism? Is it fair to expect alumni CEOs to feel obligated to hire candidates solely based on their alma mater? Such a practice may be deemed immoral, unethical, and contrary to principles of corporate governance. We must avoid turning alumni networks into exclusive syndicates or ecosystems that disadvantage talented and aspirational young individuals. #alumni #alumnisuccess #alumnispotlight #iit #iitians #iitlucknow #bitspilani #corporategovernance #ceo #unethical #jobshiring #question #entrepreneurship #syndicate #ecosystem | K Yatish Rajawat bhupendra chaubey Vivek Law Rajesh Joshi MANDAR JOSHI Prashant Agarwal

A global #MadeinIndia startup with IIT roots: At LOHUM, IITians from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur batches between 1979 to 2017 make up a notable percentage of our 600+ strong workforce, positioned across a wide range of roles. LOHUM Founder & CEO Rajat Verma visited his #IIT roots and met familiar faces at the IITK Alumni Convention 2024: Rising Bharat, where the alumni discussed 'Sustainability and Innovation as a Driver for Value Generation'. Highlighting that US$ 10 trillion is expected to be invested to achieve our net zero goals by 2070, he expressed- "Today, LOHUM is at a cost structure where we are the only alternative to China globally, and we have barely scratched the surface. While we may be planning to grow 10-20x in the next 3 years, there’s still a lot of work to be done. We need to build a data infrastructure in the country to know how much waste there truly is. Without high-quality data, we will have a lot of false starts. But if we can size the problem well, we can truly unleash entrepreneurial energies. There is a potential to create a few hundred if not a thousand unicorns." Together, we look forward to making closed-loop economies a reality. Thanking Mr. Rohit Dhawan, Owner - Micro Power Systems, Secretary - IITK Alumni, Mr. Rohit Toshniwal CoFounder Sprih, Mr. Sharad Agarwal, Founder at Indian School of Development Management, Mr. PRAVEER AGRAWAL Executive Director Marketing (GAIL India Ltd.), Director (Central UP Gas Limited) & Vice President (GSASL), Mr. Vivek Bhagwat, Consultant at Arista Networks for the insightful discussion. Experience is a default matter; exposure is hard work! Being an alum of IIT or IIM is a default status acquired by having been there, but what you learn in the real world makes you a genuine person. Saying that doesn't mean any disrespect towards IITians and IIMs, but it's a course correction, much like how the stock market corrects itself. To achieve further growth, true professionals must adjust their approach and draw from the real stock of young and talented individuals from other institutes too.

In our latest report, we concluded that over 60% of Indian soonicorn founders do not hail from IITs, and over 77% have a non-IIM background! Let’s decode the educational background of India’s soonicorn founders 👇 🔶 According to the analysis of 213 soonicorn founders, over 90% graduated with some form of a degree in an institution in India and the rest graduated abroad. 🔶 Within this group, nearly 80% got engineering degrees (BTech and BE), only 3% pursued a degree each in commerce and economics, and more than 5% of the soonicorn founders opted for a degree in science. Less than 2% of these founders opted for BBA. 🔶 The fact that over 60% soonicorn founders come from a non-IIT background shows that despite a prestigious university degree being a plus for startup founders, it has not been a deciding factor for investors anymore. 🔶 Of the top 9 institutes offering an undergrad degree from where these soonicorns founders have graduated, 6 are IITs. 🔶 BITS Pilani, University of Delhi and NIT Karnataka also made it to the top 9 with 21 soonicorn founders combined. What are your thoughts on this? hashtag #founders hashtag #entrepreneurship hashtag #iit hashtag #unicorn

Nikhil Patil along with his friend Saurav Borse, studied hard for 2 years in Kota, Rajasthan to prepare for the IIT-JEE entrance examination. However, they both failed and returned home. They realized it was because of digital classrooms during lockdown, and distraction. It was a time of emotional stress and academic struggle. This failure inspired them to start “Mentor Prep”— a platform for entrance exam preparation for IIT-JEE, NEET and MBBS. They taught students ‘how to study’ and NOT ‘what to study.’ With personal 1:1 mentorship, emotional support, and strategic guidance to succeed in such competitive exams, Mentor Prep connects young mentors who are toppers from IIT-JEE, NEET and MBBS with aspiring students. With a highly flexible, subscription based model, Nikhil Patil, CEO of Mentor Prep, told KaroStartup, that he believes in the core mission of his company, which is to offer personalized, one on one coaching and mentorship to students. ⭐️Today, his company generates a revenue of over ₹25,00,000 per annum. 📣 Looking for More Inspiring Startups?
