LIFTING PLANS: ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS Working for almost 20 years in the oil and gas industry, one of the most important aspects during construction are lifting activities. The main criterion for safe and effective lifting is the drawing up of a lifting plan. Let us look at the essential elements together. ✅ Load details: Specifies the type of load: e.g. building materials, machinery or components. Indicate the weight of the load in terms of tonnes or kilograms. Describe the dimensions of the load: height, width and length. Consider any special characteristics of the load, such as fragility or dangerousness. Lifting Equipment and Gears: Elaborate on the details of the equipment involved: crane, overhead crane, tracks, etc. Specifies the types of straps, hooks or attachments needed to lift the load. Evaluate the lifting capacity of the equipment and ensure that it is adequate for the intended load. ✅ Personnel in charge: Define the roles within the team: coordinator, crane operator, signalman, etc. Indicate the skills required for each role. Ensure that personnel are trained to handle the equipment and follow safety procedures. ✅ Lifting method: Describe the sequence of operations for lifting: positioning, lifting, moving and final positioning. Include safety measures: e.g. safety distance, signalling, use of safety belts. Clearly communicate instructions to the personnel involved. ✅ Requirements for assembling or disassembling Lifting Equipment (if any): If the equipment requires assembly or disassembly, provide detailed instructions. Consider the time sequence for these operations. ✅ Means of Communication: Ensure that personnel can communicate effectively during the operation. Use radios, hand signals or other appropriate means to coordinate actions. ✅ Physical and Environmental Conditions: Assess the terrain where the lifting will take place: flat, sloping, uneven. Consider the weather: wind, rain, snow. Identify obstacles such as trees, buildings or power lines. Always remember: safety is the top priority! 🛡️ #lifting #LiftingPlan #construction #OilAndGas #HSE #CarloAlghisiAndPartners

IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) requires comprehensive site paperwork to ensure safety and compliance with its standards. The required documents typically include: 1. Risk Assessments: Detailed risk assessments must be performed to identify potential hazards and determine measures to mitigate them. 2. Method Statements: These documents outline the specific methods and procedures to be followed during the rope access work, ensuring all activities are conducted safely. 3. Work Plans: Detailed plans that specify the tasks to be accomplished, the sequence of work, and the methods used. 4. Rescue Plans: These are critical and must be tailored to the specific site and tasks, detailing how to carry out a rescue in case of an emergency. 5. Equipment Logs: Maintaining logs of all equipment used, including details of inspections, maintenance, and conformity with safety standards. 6. Operational Briefings and Debriefings: Documents that record briefings given to the rope access team, highlighting any specific hazards and control measures, and debriefings that review the work completed and any incidents or near misses. 7. Training and Certification Records: Documentation that verifies all personnel have the appropriate training and certifications for the work they are performing. These documents are crucial for ensuring that all rope access work is planned, executed, and reviewed with safety as the highest priority.
