On this #InternationalMigrantsDay, we celebrate the theme of "Building a Better Future for All" by spotlighting a remarkable pro bono partnership making a tangible difference. Baker McKenzie and the refugee-led organization BEVEL ON Association in Switzerland joined forces to create pathways for displaced individuals to rebuild their careers and regain independence. What began as legal support for Bevel ON’s registration as a legal association has evolved into broader guidance on compliance, empowering their mission of career rebuilding for displaced individuals. Where is HomeSafe Alliance? I’m at the International Association of Movers Conference this year and went looking for HSA to get questions answered, but they are no where to be found! No booth in the exhibit hall. No personnel walking around to talk with. Should we really expect anything more from them? For a company who has said they need the people at this conference to participate to make program work, yet they can’t be found. They need to build trust within our military community, yet they won’t turn on commenting on their social channels, they won’t return emails, they won’t communicate, but we’re suppose to trust them with our household goods. Why won’t HSA answer questions? Why won’t they be accessible to the communities they need and the ones they are suppose to serve? Is it because they don’t have answers? Is it because they realize they can’t do this? Is it because they are cowards and don’t really care about our military community and only care about the money flowing from Transcom? Where are you HomeSafe Alliance? #PCSreform #Advocacy #MilitaryFamsDeserveMore

“The Trump team might think they are ready… But so are we.” In 2017, we called lawyers to JFK Airport in response to the travel ban, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with immigrant families. In just a few days, nearly 1,000 lawyers had answered the call. That moment wasn’t just a response—it was the beginning of a movement. Today, as new policies threaten due process and immigrant families across the country, Immigrant ARC remains unwavering in its mission. We’re ready to fight back, but we can’t do it alone. Our network of over 80 legal service providers is on the frontlines, ensuring access to justice for those who need it most. Your support fuels this fight—helping us train attorneys, provide technical assistance, and advocate for fair policies. 💡 Read more about our work and the challenges ahead in this recent New York Times article: https://lnkd.in/gbqadHJX 💻 Will you stand with us in this fight for justice? Every dollar fuels our efforts to protect immigrant families and uphold due process. Together, we’re building a world where justice and equity prevail. #ImmigrantJustice #ImmigrationPolicy #HumanRights #Leadership #StandWithImmigrants #NonProfitWork #DueProcessForAll #SocialImpact

Such a good statement, worth reading in full: calling for a ceasefire, for investment in peacemaking, and for the peacebuilding sector around the world to tackle the rise in hate, antisemitism and Islamophobia
The Alliance for Peacebuilding called for a doubling of MEPPA this week to increase funding for civil society peacebuilding and economic development in the region, one of ALLMEP's key advocacy priorities. Thank you for supporting peacebuilders at this critical time: https://lnkd.in/eGYP9XH4

Over the next few weeks we'll be bringing a focus on Our 8 Principles for Community Lawyering. 🔍 Principle 2: We stand in solidarity with our client's work. 🤝 In our exploration of effective community lawyering, the importance of true solidarity emerged as a fundamental principle. Our research emphasises that the most transformative legal advisors are those who embed themselves as allies within the communities they serve. A quote from our findings reflects this commitment: "It is important for lawyers to understand that there is something deeply personal about the work that gets done. Emotional connection with the work is really important for advisors." 🌱 It’s not just about providing legal advice—it’s about understanding and supporting the deeper, often personal motivations behind community organisations. Whether it's a charity born from personal tragedy, or a movement sparked by continued social injustice; we know that empathy and solidarity with the movement are key to providing the best advice possible and furthering social justice. 💬 By standing in solidarity, community lawyers not only advocate for their clients but also share in their struggles and aspirations, creating a partnership that transcends the typical client-lawyer relationship. #CommunityLawyering #Solidarity #SocialJustice #LegalSupport

Recent media coverage concerning Stephen Ireland and Pride in Surrey: Windsor and Eton Pride was established with a clear vision to promote inclusivity, safety, and community support for all. We are aware of the recent news stories concerning criminal charges brought against the Director of our neighbouring Pride organisation in Surrey. We want to make it unequivocally clear that there has never been any formal connection between our two organisations. In pursuit of our vision, we have prioritised the establishment of a qualified Safeguarding Lead, alongside implementing robust safeguarding policies and procedures for our growing volunteer organisation. All our committee volunteers are briefed on these policies, and DBS checks are mandatory for those most likely to interact with potentially vulnerable groups. Our SafeSpace4All initiative is a comprehensive scheme that enables local businesses and organisations to demonstrate their commitment to our values of inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and safe in their spaces. This initiative is more than just a sticker on a website or window—it includes signposting to support and training for anyone who needs it. The allegations against members of a neighbouring Pride organisation are deeply disturbing, and we fervently hope that justice is served for any victims and their families. It is also crucial that the legacy and reputation of the global Pride movement, of which we are a proud part, remain centred on understanding and inclusivity. The reprehensible actions of individuals should not be allowed to undermine decades of progress or be used as an excuse for fostering intolerance or hate. This situation must not overshadow the incredible work our organisation and organisations like ours are able to achieve through our committed volunteers. For media inquiries, interviews, or further information regarding the SafeSpace4All Scheme, please contact : Steve Harris or Kirsty Northam Windsor & Eton Pride Kirsty@windsorpride.co.uk – Trustee & Communications Lead Steve@windsorpride.co.uk – Chairman

🌟 Celebrating purpose-led people of 2024 🌟 The Institute of Community Directors Australia has highlighted inspiring leaders making a real impact across the charity, not-for-profit, and community sectors. We’re proud to see DCA Chair Sunita Gloster AM featured among this year’s changemakers. As Sunita says: “Unchallenged, harmful stereotypes are a root cause of discrimination and inequality. Cultural shifts in attitudes are the key to changing behaviour and the systems that perpetuate society’s inequalities.” At DCA, we’re committed to driving change by fostering inclusive workplaces and challenging the systems that hold inequality in place. 👉Read the article here: https://ow.ly/QsMK50UuB91 #DiversityandInclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #BusinessAustralia #DiversityCouncilAustralia #HumanResources #InclusiveEmployers #InclusiveLeadership #Leadership #InclusionMatters #DiversityMatters

Kindly share the following important information from Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque! _____________________________________ I send this message in hopes that you will join us in solidarity to uphold the dignity of all persons, especially vulnerable immigrants/refugees in the months to come. I would like to share the following resource with you and ask that you share the information widely with your parish, church, immigrant and community networks. We anticipate there will be rapid or frequent changes to federal immigration rules and policies that govern the treatment of immigrants and their families after Jan 20th, 2025. We also know that immigrants/refugees are afraid and rightly concerned about threats of mass deportation. If you want to help, below is one concrete way to share valuable information to support your immigrant/refugee neighbors. Save or bookmark the toolkit link at https://lnkd.in/gGZJBwdX To help respond and prepare our community, Catholic Charities has launched a virtual toolkit with videos and supporting materials to help educate immigrants and our general community. This toolkit is now live and can be found on our agency website, entitled "Know Your Rights (KYR) & Safety Planning" toolkit. The information is intended to educate or increase awareness of general principles in law and how the law protects your rights when interacting with police or immigration authorities. This toolkit is not meant to replace the need for seeking legal advice from an immigration attorney or DOJ accredited representative if people have specific legal immigration questions. Currently, this toolkit includes KYR informational videos from Catholic Charities' immigration attorneys in English and Spanish. We intend to include other commonly spoken languages as they become available (ie. French, Swahili, Haitian Creole, Burmese, Pashto and Dari). The toolkit has documents that can be downloaded and printed to allow parishes, social justice committees, and schools to help provide accurate information regarding immigrant rights and safety planning. _____________________________________
