PILPG is excited to announce that Julian Braithwaite is joining PILPG’s Circle of Former Ambassadors to the United Nations Human Rights Council, a network of several former Ambassadors to the Human Rights Council. Julian Braithwaite CMG has had an extensive career with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the UK Government, including most recently as Director General for Europe and as a Director General in the Home Office. Before that, he was Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UK Mission to the UN, and other international organizations in Geneva from 2015 to 2021 including the UN Human Rights Council, and to the EU Political and Security Committee in Brussels from 2011 to 2015. Other previous roles have included Director of Consular Services, Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO); Counsellor for Global Issues, British Embassy Washington DC; and Director of Communications, Office of the High Representative, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Much of his early career, he spent dealing with conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, including with the FCO, UN, and NATO. Julian Braithwaite is currently President and CEO of the International Alliance for International Drinking, a not-for-profit organization based in London and Washington DC dedicated to reducing harmful drinking and promoting understanding of responsible drinking, and supported by the world's leading beer, wine, and spirits companies. He is also a trustee of Prisoners Abroad, a UK charity that supports the health, wellbeing, and human rights of British citizens detained overseas. Welcome, Julian Braithwaite! - Founder, Dr. Paul R.
