Teachers are a central part of education systems. We expect them to have a deep understanding of what they teach, whom they teach, and that they give much more than what is put in the job description. But according to the latest Education Policy Outlook, one-quarter of students were in schools perceiving inadequate or poorly qualified staff in 2022. The outlook provides evidence-based insights into education policy worldwide and how education systems are working to support teachers. As teacher shortages grow across countries, see what else the data reveal about the teaching profession 🔗 https://lnkd.in/en622GZ7 Diana Toledo Figueroa, Ameline Besin, Christa Rawkins, Emily Qing #EducationPolicyOutlook #Teachers #Teaching #TeacherShortages #Education

The teaching profession is dying! Education ministries can be doing a lot of things but if a teacher (Higher Ed) is payed $4 to $5 USD/hour (at private universities) without any legal benefits (such as health assurance), very few professionals will be willing to enter as educators. There has to be a shift on how we see teachers, having respect for their knowledge, experience and commitment. There has to be training programs for teaching professional development. But the budgets are not there, and what is worse, the interest for improving working conditions for teachers is lacking. I am worried about what is happening.

Education is a liberal item in the agenda of national growth and therefore should be kept away from changing/ democratic interferences of the day.
We have known for over a decade that we have a teacher shortage crisis. A long term solution is to use the nations 1,200 community colleges. Since 2017, 141,425 New Mexican students have not had a licensed teacher. This is a national crisis.

1moThis is a stark reminder of how many critical years we’ve lost in addressing the challenges facing the teaching profession. Despite extensive evidence from research, including OECD reports, and repeated warnings from European Trade Union Committee for Education ETUCE-CSEE and other stakeholders, we find ourselves in the midst of a crisis that could have been mitigated with timely action. What concerns me is this: if years of data, expert analyses, and advocacy didn’t prompt significant change, what gives us confidence that this new report will lead to a different outcome? While it highlights the urgency of the situation, real change will only happen if policymakers prioritize long-term solutions over short-term fixes and actively collaborate with educators, unions, and stakeholders. Otherwise, we risk continuing this cycle of inaction…
