Khi Solar One, Africa’s first concentrated solar power thermal plant, is situated in South Africa's Northern Cape Region. Spanning over 140 hectares, its 4,200 solar mirrored panels produce clean energy for over 45,000 South African homes. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has set ambitious emissions targets known as Net Zero by 2050, which will increase the demand for alternative energy sources. With high temporal and high spatial resolution Earth Observation data satellite imagery, we bring significant advancements to renewable energy and monitoring remote energy operations. Its capabilities enable us to see the bigger picture, make informed decisions, drive solar innovations forward, and help industries maximize output while minimizing environmental risks and impacts. #UzmaSAT1 #SeeBetter #SeeTheBiggerPicture #SeeTheUnseen #GeospatialAI #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #SustainableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Innovation #SatelliteImagery #EarthObservation

More than 90% of the world has #access to electricity. While that number is impressive – it has grown from 84% in 2010 – it also means that 685 million people still live #WithoutElectricity. About 80% of them, are in #SubSaharanAfrica. But thanks to technological breakthroughs, #digitization, and #innovations in payment models, Distributed Renewable Energy #DRE has the potential to become one of the least-cost and most efficient ways to bring electricity to the remaining unconnected communities to low- and middle-income countries. I'm big on daily doses of good news and I really enjoyed how this article showcases positive news stories for 2024 (so far) centred around environmental wins. The one that surprised me the most was Portugal generated a ‘historic’ 95 per cent of its electricity from renewables in April according to the network operator REN. This article challenged me to think about the bigger renewable energy space - it's quite amazing how far the world has come in the clean energy space. But where's South Africa in this mix? We've got investment, but we've got big grid problems... Do you think solar farms will help solve the grid riddle?
