Startups need to realize there are two parts to Market Intelligence. The first part, which most founders are well-rehearsed in, is Marketplace Intelligence. This is understanding how customers will use your solution or the specific problems they overcome from adoption. But there's a huge gap in many sales and marketing strategies...Industry Intelligence. This is not just about knowing your target audience...it's about knowing all the direct or similar companies doing something similar to the same target audience. Ignoring Industry Intelligence is a big mistake. The knowledge from Industry Intelligence typically comes in late throughout the strategy, but it needs to be addressed early on. Without it, you're flying blind in a crowded market.
